Value for honey: HP4/5 16 ; N sugar concentration 84% (RH<br />

90%) in outer nectaries 17 ; N sugar concentration 26.8%<br />

Fewer and larger flowers, less concentrated N, and<br />

produced per flower then B. rapa ssp. oleifera 86 ; has bee<br />

viciifolia (sainfoin) and held by some to be second only to<br />

the flowers of the Regent cv. stayed open for two days an<br />

open on the third day 86 .<br />

Value for pollen: P protein is high 17 ; P grains are ove<br />

honeybees collect N and none collect P on1y 2'; P may be di<br />

packed into P baskets 35; produces about 1/2 the amo<br />

oleifera (i.e. about 9.33 kg/ha/24h) 86 .<br />

Cvs. of this ssp. are self-fertile and it appears that ad<br />

not necessary 9,23,46,69 (in 59). However, 2 cvs. (Janetzke and<br />

free environment yielded few seeds 96 and 5 insects per flo<br />

good pollination of this ssp. 75 ; reports of increases in<br />

95% 21,41,96 (in 59); se ed yield increases attributed to insects<br />

Regent were 77, 49, and 58% respectively (Mohr and Jay unp<br />

Honey: bright to pale yellow in colour; classed as white t<br />

very rapid (within a few days in the comb); fine homogen<br />

mild and indistinct when granulated; aroma of the flowers ca<br />

H's from new canola cvs. (i.e. those cvs. low in eruc<br />

anti-nutritional factors) are thought to be superior in flavour
