spreads by underground rhizomes; growth and spread can be encouraged by applying<br />
nitrogen fertilizers (at certain application rates this may also increase N secretion); full<br />

woodlands, damp ravines, subarct. America. S. .to Nfld., N.S. and across Canada and<br />
