In the waning hours before this program, Brian realized that going<br />

on a radio show to talk about what he knows doesn't make any<br />

sense at all [Laughs].<br />

Brian, rest assured, your life is the perfect teaching, and as<br />

instructive as any other, particularly because you've been in some<br />

dark places in your life, and you've taken a long scorching look at<br />

yourself. I find you breathtakingly honest about yourself, and as<br />

clear as any avant-<strong>garde</strong> sage we've had on our program. <strong>The</strong>re<br />

are millions of others out there like yourself who may one day<br />

benefit from the knowledge of how your personal crisis have been<br />

so beautifully resolved, and how your way of looking continues to<br />

resolve them. I'm grateful to be your new friend, and have the<br />

opportunity of this conversation.<br />

BRIAN ADLER: Thank you, Trip.<br />

WIZARD: Welcome, Brian. Brian and I, we go back a few<br />

decades.<br />

TRIP: Yes. Should I be launching into my questions here?<br />

[Laughs] All right, I want to read something that you wrote, and<br />

you wrote this… well actually this is something that you wrote<br />

recently, just posted recently, and I've got some other things<br />

you've written. Way back in 1995 Brian was a pretty introspective<br />

lad, you wrote; maybe you read it, Brian:<br />

BRIAN ADLER: "Our relationships to circumstances are the<br />

circumstances themselves, or all that we know of them. It informs<br />

everything we experience of them, this is what no separation<br />

means in functional terms. <strong>The</strong>refore it is our hope for the future<br />

that is precisely the same as our resistance of the present. This<br />

hope is our relationship, our rejection to circumstances. It is our<br />

experience of circumstances. Our hope is our suffering, <strong>with</strong>out<br />

hope there is no resistance, <strong>with</strong>out resistance there isn't despair<br />

as we imagine that is overburdened by fear, but rather <strong>with</strong>out<br />

hope, everything we hoped for in a future moment reveals itself as<br />

available in the present circumstances. We imagine that optimal<br />
