<strong>Conversations</strong> <strong>with</strong> <strong>Avant</strong>-<strong>garde</strong> <strong>Sages</strong><br />

was looking at it, I said, “This is just mind-boggling. Nothing is<br />

ever imperfect. Everything is exactly, precisely the way that it is<br />

and that’s perfect the way that it is.” It was such a relief at that<br />

point because previous to that, I was going, “Well I have to do<br />

this,” and “This is not right,” and “I don’t have a job and I don’t<br />

have a place to live and I left everything behind,” blah, blah, blah; ,<br />

the story of that. <strong>The</strong>n I remember several days later I drove on<br />

down the mountain and was talking to people and people would<br />

come up to me and were thinking that I was stoned because I<br />

guess I was still in that an altered state.<br />

But then people would talk to me and I was stunned – and that’s<br />

the only word that I can appropriately use – stunned by how well<br />

and perfectly they knew what they should be saying to me. <strong>The</strong>y<br />

knew their lines. It’s almost like everybody has a script and they<br />

were reading their script and they knew the pauses and the<br />

inflections, they knew the stage directions, the gesturing <strong>with</strong> their<br />

hands and getting up and moving and exiting stage right. I was<br />

stunned by this whole thing was a great play and that this play<br />

truly emanated from <strong>with</strong>in the heart of who I am; it just poured<br />

forth like some cornucopia of delight and it was all being present<br />

and manifested there just for my own growth and my own<br />

edification. It was beyond mind-boggling. My mind was gone. It<br />

wasn’t even there to be boggled.<br />

WIZARD: Reminds me of the Moody Blues song, A Question of<br />

Balance: And he saw magnificent perfection.<br />

CHUCK HILLIG: Yes, true and that was beyond belief; there you<br />

go.<br />

WIZARD: Right on, well said.<br />

TRIP: I want to offer up a little possible consolation though. I<br />

know that there are people out there that are looking for an<br />

enlightenment experience of that proportion and they feel that<br />

they haven’t had it and so they feel lacking and they feel a little<br />

searching. I just want to say I don’t think maybe it looks like any<br />
