The
Perched on a rocky spur, Brancion welcomes
you to discover the Middle Ages you dream of:
a castle built by the Lords of Brancion between
the 10 th and the 13 th centuries and enhanced by
the Dukes of Burgundy, admire the medieval hall
and Romanesque church and some exceptional
panoramas and walks through this entirely pedestrian
site. Fun, fancy dress tour for 4-10 year olds,
unaccompanied or audioguide tours – choose
the way you want to visit, at your own pace.
The castle of Saint Point was built during the 12th Alphonse de Lamartine
century and, like other castles in
the area, it was used to defend Cluny Abbey; it evolved over the centuries. In 1789,
the villagers ransacked it. In 1801 Pierre de Lamartine, the poet’s father bought it at
an auction together with a hundred or so hectares of land, to extend and live off
his landed estate.Alphonse de Lamartine was only 11 years
old, and would often come here with his parents and sisters.

Castle of Saint Point
Alphonse de Lamartine was to come here several months
each year, until his death in Paris in 1869. He is buried in a
tomb situated at the far end of the park in the small chapel
he had had built to bury his mother in 1829. The visit of
the interior allows visitors to see ornaments, paintings and
furniture that have remained there since his death and all
his literary and political works.
15/04 - 15/10: Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays . 14 /07 - 25/08: daily. 01/07 to 08/07
and 01/09 to 08/09 : closed. Visits at 11am, 3pm, 4pm and 5pm. Groups from 20 pers: all
year round by appointment.
Adult: 8 € - From 10 to15 years old: 5 €; -10 years old: free. Group: 7 € /pers.
Lamartine’s Château has been awarded the title « Home of an Illustrious Man » by the
Ministry of Culture and Communication.

The Mâconnais, the largest of the Saône et Loire wine-growing
areas, stretches between the Grosne and Saône valleys.
Between the Côte Chalonnaise and the Beaujolais, the Monts
du Mâconnais have a wine-growing vocation blessed 1000
years ago by the monks of Cluny and Tournus abbeys.
Extending through 64 villages and covering some 500km
in 8 circuits through the vineyards of the regional (Mâcon,
Mâcon-village and Mâcon specified by the name of the
village) and communal appellations (Pouilly-Fuissé, Pouilly-
Loché, Pouilly-Vinzelles, Saint-Véran et Viré-Clessé) the Mâconnais-Beaujolais wine
road will also enable you to discover a series of Romanesque churches, the abrupt
and Romantic Roche de Solutré and the birthplace of the famous poet Alphonse de
Lamartine… not to forget the châteaux, museums, prehistoric caves and the typical
Mâconnais wine-growers’ houses.

The Federation of Cluniac Sites
cThe Federation of the Cluniac Sites joins together the places which, in Europe,
contributed to the extraordinary radiation of the abbey of Cluny of 10 th
at the 18 th Century. This federation has the role of emphasizing this patrimonial
heritage by cultural, teaching and tourist activities and follow four aims:
develop the heritage of Cluniac sites, help the exchange of information, encourage
iniatives, raise public awareness.
