<strong>Notes</strong> on various <strong>deeds</strong> and documents relating to <strong>67</strong>-<strong>69</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>Street</strong><br />

Documents mostly relate to the Beckingham, Neale, Liddiard families, and as well as <strong>67</strong>-<br />
<strong>69</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>Street</strong>; other properties mentioned include Kate’s Cottage, 7 Park <strong>Street</strong>, 8<br />
Park <strong>Street</strong>, and North View.<br />
26 Jun 1875: Will <strong>of</strong> Ann Beckingham left residuary estate (<strong>of</strong> one quarter interest<br />
in four cottages [now <strong>67</strong>-<strong>69</strong> HS]) in trust to three sisters – Sarah Neale,<br />
Elizabeth Neale and Maria Neale (and after final death to three nephews<br />
Joseph Edward Neale, John William Neale and James Henry Neale).<br />
12 Jul 1875: Ann Buckingham died<br />
25 Apr 1884: Sarah Neale’s will left estate to three nephews JEN, JWN, HJN.<br />
29 Dec 1885: Sarah Neale died.<br />
21 Jan 1886: Elizabeth Neale’s will bequeathed four freehold cottages at top <strong>of</strong> the<br />
<strong>High</strong> <strong>Street</strong> plus 1 acre nearby, to Maria Neale (or when she dies to nephew<br />
John William Neale.<br />
20 Nov 1887: Elizabeth Neale died.<br />
21 Jan 1886: Maria Neale’s will gave all to sister Elizabeth Neale (and when she dies<br />
to nephew Joseph Edward Neale.<br />
Joseph, John Henry agreed to divide the properties.<br />
23 Apr 1903: Deed <strong>of</strong> Partition and Conveyance: Joseph Edward Neale (<strong>Hungerford</strong>,<br />
painter), John William Neale (Linkenholt, carpenter), Henry James Neale<br />
(<strong>Hungerford</strong>, painter), divided the estate into three individual properties:<br />
- Two cottages and land (marked pink on the plan = 68 <strong>High</strong> <strong>Street</strong>) occupied by<br />
Joseph Edward Neale<br />
- One cottage and land (marked brown on the plan = <strong>69</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>Street</strong>) occupied by<br />
William Buxey (including the jointly used well)<br />
- One cottage and land (marked yellow on the plan = <strong>67</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>Street</strong>) occupied by<br />
William Gunter.<br />
Joseph paid £40 to John William Neale. George Taylor (<strong>Hungerford</strong>,<br />
accountant)

3 Oct 1912: Mortgage <strong>of</strong> two cottages and gardens, occupied by Joseph Edward Neale<br />
(marked pink on the plan, now 68 <strong>High</strong> <strong>Street</strong>), and also Common Rights, and<br />
joint use <strong>of</strong> the well on the property adjoining now occupied by Arthur Harry<br />
Hobbs (<strong>69</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>Street</strong>), with Dr R H Barker and others (Trustees <strong>of</strong><br />
Oddfellows Lodge).

<strong>Street</strong>) in now in occupation <strong>of</strong> Joseph Neale (and Common Rights) and joint use<br />
<strong>of</strong> the well on property now in occupation <strong>of</strong> Arthur Harry Hobbs for £175<br />
8 Oct 1921: Conveyance <strong>of</strong> two cottages (for many years occupied by Joseph Neale,<br />
=68 <strong>High</strong> <strong>Street</strong>, marked pink on plan) with garden <strong>from</strong> Joseph Edward Neale<br />
(<strong>Hungerford</strong>, plumber, painter, house decorator) to George Henry Neale<br />
(<strong>Hungerford</strong>, plumber, painter, house decorator).

11 Jan 1933: (14 Dec 1900, will <strong>of</strong> Henry James Neale left estate to Eliza Neale <strong>of</strong><br />
Fairview Road) Assent: Eliza Neale as executrix passes property (in the<br />
occupation <strong>of</strong> William Gunter tenant, ie <strong>67</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>Street</strong>) to herself.<br />

7 Feb 1962: George Henry Neale (The Hive, 6 Park <strong>Street</strong>, formerly <strong>of</strong> 7 North View)<br />
died.<br />

30 July 1979: Conveyance <strong>of</strong> <strong>67</strong> HS <strong>from</strong> Mrs Ida Smith to Colin Williams (<strong>of</strong> 13b<br />
