Celebrat<strong>in</strong>g the World Autism Month, The Health & Fitness Society at NDU-NLC <strong>in</strong>vited the Lebanese Autism Society<br />

and Dr. Mohammad Itani (Paediatrics Specialist on Autism) to deliver a sem<strong>in</strong>ar on Wednesday, May 11, 2011. Fr.<br />

Samir Ghsoub along with a huge crowd of students, staff and faculty attended the sem<strong>in</strong>ar.<br />

Dr. Maz<strong>in</strong> Moufarij (Sem<strong>in</strong>ar moderator) <strong>in</strong>troduced Dr. Itani and expressed gratitude to the Lebanese Autism Society<br />

for their cont<strong>in</strong>uous efforts <strong>in</strong> spread<strong>in</strong>g awareness on this disease that affects many of our young children <strong>in</strong> Lebanon.<br />

Dr. Itani presented valuable scientific and medical <strong>in</strong>formation and gave hope towards the management of such a<br />

devastat<strong>in</strong>g compla<strong>in</strong>t. Mrs. Ghada Makhoul, Secretary General of the Lebanese Autism Society, mother of a 12-year<br />

old autistic child, emphasized that children with this disability need our full support, present<strong>in</strong>g her own personal<br />

experience.<br />

Brochures on Autism prepared by the Lebanese Autism Society were distributed to all the audience.<br />

NLC Founder’s Day<br />

Every year the University waits for the special day that celebrates its foundation, namely Founder’s Day. It celebrates<br />

this day with pride, unity, and passion.<br />

This year our University Campus enjoyed itself <strong>in</strong> a different way. NLC students brought along friends from outside<br />

the University, mak<strong>in</strong>g sure that they didn’t miss anyth<strong>in</strong>g. Staff and faculty members of course also attended to<br />

enjoy this special occasion. Father Samir Ghsoub, Director of NDU-NLC, declared the open<strong>in</strong>g of Founder’s Day with<br />

a rous<strong>in</strong>g speech. Club presidents <strong>in</strong>troduced their stands’ themes and activities. The Majdera Band performed<br />

rock music twice on stage. The Horizon Club executed a stunn<strong>in</strong>g motorcycle show. The Social Club organized a<br />

beer competition, offer<strong>in</strong>g a prize for the w<strong>in</strong>ner and also <strong>in</strong>troduc<strong>in</strong>g a new dr<strong>in</strong>k. Two professional s<strong>in</strong>gers sang<br />

“golden oldies” <strong>in</strong> <strong>English</strong>, French, and Spanish. Studio el-Fan w<strong>in</strong>ner Ghadi, and one-man show Tony Barhush fired<br />

up the atmosphere with students danc<strong>in</strong>g and s<strong>in</strong>g<strong>in</strong>g along. The Free Will Club set off a magnificent fireworks<br />

display that illum<strong>in</strong>ated the sky. NDU students Cecile Chehadeh and Halim Serhan showed off their musical talents.<br />

The Green Club performed a Dabke represent<strong>in</strong>g our tradition and culture, and there was also a shoot<strong>in</strong>g plate<br />

competition. F<strong>in</strong>ally, there was a karaoke show created by DJ Cedra.<br />

It has always been and always will be a day to remember for the University, and it is gett<strong>in</strong>g better and better every year.<br />
