NDU Audio Visual student George Tarabay, whose Civil but Not Civilized had won the Golden Award <strong>in</strong> the Lebanese<br />

TV and Film Festival, scored another success when his documentary project Stateless was selected <strong>in</strong> the Greenhouse<br />

program with twelve other <strong>in</strong>ternational documentaries, supported by the Sundance Institute, Jan Vrijman Fund,<br />

Arte/zdf, itvS, Channel 4, BBC Worldwide, World C<strong>in</strong>ema Fund, P.O.V. and MDR Germany, and f<strong>in</strong>anced by the<br />

European Union. He thereby earned <strong>in</strong>tensive sem<strong>in</strong>ars <strong>in</strong> three different countries and master courses given by top<br />

<strong>in</strong>ternational experts and documentary producers and directors.<br />

Success at Zayed University<br />

Our student Gaby Milky won the Best Animated Film Award for his film Once Upon a Feather at the Zayed University<br />

Middle East Film Festival held at Abu Dhabi last Thursday.<br />

Mgr. Labaki on Hope<br />

On Tuesday, March 22nd, 2011, NDU had the pleasure of receiv<strong>in</strong>g Mgr. Mansour<br />

Labaki <strong>in</strong> the Abou Khater Auditorium to hear him deliver a lecture on the subject<br />

From Despair to Hope. Dr. George Eid, Dean of the Faculty of Natural and Applied<br />

Sciences, presented Mgr. Labaki, who is assistant to the archbishop <strong>in</strong> the Maronite<br />

Archdiocese of Beirut.<br />

Fr. Labaki talked about his experience <strong>in</strong> Lebanon and abroad, ma<strong>in</strong>ly <strong>in</strong> France and<br />

<strong>in</strong> the USA. He expla<strong>in</strong>ed how Despair can be transformed <strong>in</strong>to Hope by a series of<br />

achievements which he shared with us.<br />

Fr. Labaki started by talk<strong>in</strong>g about the massacre at the beg<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g of the Lebanese<br />

civil war <strong>in</strong> Damour, where he served as a priest from 1971 to 1976.<br />
