Stock Orders:
A small supply of “starter” bottles or dose packs is available from the Drug Room. Please use
the TB/LTBI Stock Medication Request to request these medications.
Your stock order will be processed and shipped to you with your next medication order.
Keep this stock to a minimum, no more than a one month supply should be kept on hand at any
given time.
Floor stock should never be used to maintain clients on regular ongoing therapy.
Be sure to rotate all stock monthly to insure you are using the shortest expiration dated
medication first.
Close and Outdated Medications:
All outdated medication should be immediately removed from your regular stock and clearly
marked “Expired-Not for Patient USE”. Outdated medications must be stored separately from
regular stock until it can be returned to the Drug Room.
The PHC should return all close-dated medication to the Drug Room at least six months PRIOR
to the actual expiration date.
When processing medication returns please follow these steps.
1. Complete the TB/LTBI Medication Return Form and include in the shipping box.
2. Retain a copy of the completed Medication Return Inventory Form at your facility for two
years.
Drug Interactions:
The Drug Room will screen and report clinically significant Drug Interactions to the PHN for all
medications submitted for review. Potential drug interactions must be resolved prior to the
Drug Room dispensing any medication.
All serious adverse drug reactions must be reported to the AK TB Program and to the online FDA
MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting Program. The pharmacist can assist you with this.
The pharmacist can supply a current drug interaction report as well as address your general
medication questions.
Reporting Drug Allergies:
All suspected and confirmed drug allergies should be reported to the Drug Room so that they can be
added to the client’s medication profile and become a part of their regular screening process.
Medication Handling and Storage:
All medications should be stored securely under controlled room temperature conditions as
defined by the USP guidelines unless otherwise specified by the manufacturer.
Expiration dates are only valid if products have been stored within the temperature limits set
forth by the manufacturer.
