Magdalena Emter was born on August
6, 1923, a daughter of Valentine and Maryann (Schaaf)
Emter in the St. Joseph’s Community south of Glen
Ullin in Grant County, ND. Lena as she was known
grew up on her parent’s farm and attended country
school. Lena met Nick Schneider Jr, and the two were
married on February 8, 1943, at St. Mary’s Catholic
Church in Bismarck, ND. Lena and Nick were blessed
with a daughter, Gloriann. They lived seven miles east
of Glen Ullin on the Schneider farm by Twin Buttes
until Nick’s death in 1957.Following Nick’s death,
Lena and Gloriann moved into Glen Ullin. A few years
later Lena met and married Walter Irving Pearson on
September 25, 1964, at Brush, CO. To this union Linda
and Cindy were born. Following their marriage, Lena,
Walter and the girls made their home in Glen Ullin. In
the mid 1970’s, Lena went to work at Marian Manor
in Glen Ullin where she worked until her retirement.
In her spare time, Lena enjoyed spending time with her
family, gardening, traveling, dancing and listening to
old time music. She will always be remembered for
her great sense of humor and love of life. She was a
talented musician being able to play the piano and
drums by ear. Lena was an excellent cook and baker
and took great pride in her work. She was a faithful
member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Lena passed
away on Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at Marian Manor
HealthCare Center in Glen Ullin, ND. Lena is survived
by her three daughters, Gloriann (Gary) Horst, Fort
Collins, CO, Linda (Terry) Wagner, Glen Ullin, ND and
Cindy (Stacy) Landwer, Gilbert, MN; 7 grandchildren,
Karen (Darrin) Herbst, Michelle (Keith) Andrews,
Nicole (Nathan) Stutte, Melissa Wagner, Ryan Wagner,
Magdalena “Maggie” Landwer and McKendrick
Landwer; 5 great-grandchildren, Brandon Andrews,
Bobbi Herbst, Hannah Stutte, Colton Stutte and Conner
Stutte; two sisters-in-law, Gertrude Emter, Glen Ullin,
ND and Manuela Emter, CA and numerous nieces and
nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents,
both of her husbands, Nick and Walter, and her sisters,
Rose (Harry) Berger, Eva (George) Markham, Anna
(Marcus) Thomas, brothers, Matt (Gertrude) Emter,
Adam (Stella) Emter, Valentine Emter, Ed (Mary) Emter,
Raymond (Manuela) Emter, Frank Emter and Anton
(Frances) Emter and a granddaughter, Brenda Horst.

The woman that changed my life
a wonderful mother and a wife
everyday she made me smile
Our time together was well worth while
Everyday we would pray
And then Grandpa passed away
All my family gathered near
Together we all shed some tears
She can no longer remember my name
But that doesn't matter to me, it's all the same
When she recognizes my face
Everything seems to fall back in place
I miss the days of long ago
But soon this will end, we all know
I will hold our memories deep in my heart
