Lens Size Approximation<br />

Place <strong>the</strong> lens aga<strong>in</strong>st <strong>the</strong> frame <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> correct position. The marked axis l<strong>in</strong>e<br />

should be parallel to <strong>the</strong> horizontal axis of <strong>the</strong> frame <strong>and</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> center of <strong>the</strong> vertical<br />

axis. The lens shape required can <strong>the</strong>n be <strong>in</strong>dicated us<strong>in</strong>g a permanent marker to<br />

draw around <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>side of <strong>the</strong> glasses.<br />

Cutt<strong>in</strong>g<br />

The diamond-tipped pen should be used to score around <strong>the</strong> outside of <strong>the</strong><br />

desired lens shape (Fig. 7). Once complete <strong>the</strong> pliers should be used to remove <strong>the</strong><br />

outer portion of <strong>the</strong> lens (practice first with pla<strong>in</strong> glass).<br />

Shap<strong>in</strong>g<br />

A diamond-coated glass gr<strong>in</strong>der is used for f<strong>in</strong>ish<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> edges of <strong>the</strong> lens. Great<br />

care should be taken not to overgr<strong>in</strong>d <strong>the</strong> lens. Determ<strong>in</strong>e <strong>the</strong> correct shape by<br />

compar<strong>in</strong>g with <strong>the</strong> frame regularly. No sharp edges should be left on <strong>the</strong> lens.<br />
