surgery for an extended vesicovaginal fibrosis, which reduces the chances of success.
The lack of trained personnel able to cope with adequate postoperative care of VVF
results in complications such as the fall of the vesical probe.
The VVF constitutes a serious health problem in the NE of DRC. The care of
patients with this problem is difficult because of the lack of an institution with
medical and paramedical personnel able to manage the care satisfactorily. The only
logical attitude is prevention, by adequate organisation of antenatal clinics, with
detection and early referral of high-risk pregnancies. This would help to decrease the
incidence of the VVF.
