surgery for an extended vesicovag<strong>in</strong>al fibrosis, which reduces <strong>the</strong> chances of success.<br />

The lack of tra<strong>in</strong>ed personnel able to cope with adequate postoperative care of VVF<br />

results <strong>in</strong> complications such as <strong>the</strong> fall of <strong>the</strong> vesical probe.<br />

The VVF constitutes a serious health problem <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> NE of DRC. The care of<br />

patients with this problem is difficult because of <strong>the</strong> lack of an <strong>in</strong>stitution with<br />

medical <strong>and</strong> paramedical personnel able to manage <strong>the</strong> care satisfactorily. The only<br />

logical attitude is prevention, by adequate organisation of antenatal cl<strong>in</strong>ics, with<br />

detection <strong>and</strong> early referral of high-risk pregnancies. This would help to decrease <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>in</strong>cidence of <strong>the</strong> VVF.<br />
