Personal Benefits from Overseas Service<br />

Despite all <strong>the</strong> frustrations <strong>and</strong> difficulties encountered <strong>in</strong> overseas practice, for<br />

well-prepared volunteer <strong>the</strong> experience may be extremely positive <strong>and</strong> gratify<strong>in</strong>g. It<br />

is not uncommon for health care volunteers to report that <strong>the</strong>y have ga<strong>in</strong>ed far more<br />

from <strong>the</strong> experience than <strong>the</strong>y felt that <strong>the</strong>y were able to give. One is apt to return<br />

with a deeper appreciation <strong>and</strong> thankfulness for <strong>the</strong> benefits <strong>and</strong> resources that we<br />

have <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> U.S.<br />
