14 CLASS NOTES '20s Mowrie A. Ebner, '28, has been honored by the Altoona Area School District. The district named its new 24-classroom elementary school for the retired teacher and director of elementary education who served the public for 45 years before her retirement in 1973. She resides in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania. '40s Sarah Kline Schenck, '48, has retired as a first grade teacher at Howard Elementary School, Bald Eagle School District, after 41 years. She and her husband reside in Howard, Pennsylvania. '50s Richard E. Ishler, '57, has been named dean of the College of Education at the University of South Carolina at Columbia. He resides in Columbia, South Carolina. '60s Alfred L. Poff, '66, is a science teacher at Muncy High School and a member of the Muncy Borough Council. He and h is family reside in Muncy, Pennsylvania . Richard A. Guyer, '68, is a swimming coach at York Suburban High School. He, his wife Marilynn T. Guyer, '68, and family reside in York, Pennsylvania. '70s Daniel R. Horn, '71, is an insurance underwriter with Mallalieu-Golder Insurance Agency. He and his family reside in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. H. Robert Mencer, '71, has been named superintendent of the Northern Cambria School District, Barnesboro, Pennsylvania. Barry G. Rossman, '71, has been named the Pennsylvania Jaycees 1989 Outstanding Young Fitness Leader. He is a mathematics teacher, men's basketball and women's softball coach at State College Area High School. He resides in Madisonburg, Pennsylvania. Patricia S. Reynolds, '72, is a teacher and counselor for the Central Intermediate Unit Development Center for Adults, Lock Haven. She resides in Rote, Pennsylvania. Joe E. Nicely, '74, is an actor, teacher and writer now working on a "how to" book for clowning. He is t h e author of the children' s story " Amy's Best Day Ever," the science fiction story "Will of the Galaxy Wrecker" and a play tentatively titled, " Monkey "B usiness 2000." He recen tly h a d two articles published by Venture Inward magazine. He and his w ife reside in Alexandria, Virginia. Rita Kodish Steffen, '74, earned her elementary education certification from Bloomsburg Un iversity. Sh e is a vocation al coordinator at Selinsg rove Center, Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania. Her husband, Steven C. Steffen, '73, is a psychologist in the Selinsgrove Area School District. They and their family reside in Selinsgrove. Linda Wolfe Hinman, '75, has been named the Clinton County Outstanding Adult Educator by the Central Intermediate Unit No . 10 Development Center. She is a teacher CLASS NOTES and tutor coordinator for Project Adult Literacy. She and her family reside in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania. Debra K. Newcomer, '75, married Michael J. Steransky in February 1989. She is a teacher at the Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit, Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. They reside in Muncy, Pennsylvania. Beth Bones Weldon, '75, has been named the Williamsport Exchange Club's 1989 Police Officer of the Year. She is a state trooper in the criminal investigation unit of the Montoursville barracks. She resides in Hughesville, Pennsylvania. John W. Boyd, ' 77, is a mathematics teacher at Perkiomen Valley High School. Susan Wilson Hearn, '77, is a fourth grade teacher at Trough Creek Elementary School in the So u thern Huntingdon County School District . She and her husband have a so n a nd reside in Orbisonia, Pennsylvania. Lany C. H ill, '77, married Betty A. Mumma in February 1989. He is employed by the U.S. Postal Service, Jersey Shore. They reside in Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania. Linda Fritz Brilhart, '78, married Joseph c. Romanak. She is an officer in the student loan department of Dauphin Deposit Bank, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Philip J. Burlingame, '78, received a doctorate of higher education from the University of Pittsburgh. He is the director of residential life and housing at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. He and his family reside in Bradford, Pennsylvania. Jill J. Jermyn, '78, is a human resources representative for the Mid-Atlantic branch of Keane, Inc. , Boston, Massachusetts. Susan Gilbert Reed, '78, earned her elemen tary education certification from Shippensburg University. She is a substitute teacher in the Southern Huntingdon County School District. Wendy J. Bubb, '79, is an assistant professor of physical education at Texas Christian University, Fort Worth, Texas. Timothy B. Noone, '79, received a doctorate of philosophy from the Pontifical Institute of Medieval Studies, Toronto, Canada. He is a professor of philosophy at St. John's University, New York. Catherine T. Staub, '79, received her master 's degree equivalency in 1988. She and her husband reside in Hanover, Pennsylvania.
'80s Nancy J. DeGenaro, '80, married James A. H arry in September 1988. She is a physician's assistant in surgery at Shad yside Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. They reside in Monroeville, Pennsylvania. Ted Lyons, '21, Foundation Member and Distinguished Alumnus, Dies at 88 Torrence B. "Ted" Lyons, '21/ one of the founding members of the Lock Haven University Foundation, died April 17, 1989, at the age of 88. Born in H o w ard , Pennsylv.ania, he graduated from Lock Haven Normal School and earned his m aster's degree from New York University. H e received a doctoral degree in p h ilosophy from the University of Pittsburgh in 1943. Lyons taught a t Cameron County High Sch ool before moving to Pittsburgh to teach and coach at Carrick High School betw een 1924 and 1942. He later became the director of the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics. A founding m ember of the Lock H a ven University Foundation, Lyons served on the board of directors from 1979 until 1988. A recipient of the University's Distinguished Alumni Aw ard, he also served as a boar d member of th e Friends of the College . H e resided in Bellefonte, ·Pennsylvania. Vincent H. Davis, '81, married Gloria J. D. Walker in 1988. H e graduated from the Baltimore College of Dentistry in May 1989. They reside in Columbia, Maryland. Christina Knickerbocker, ' 81, is the director of financial aid at the State University of New York Binghamton. She resides in Newark Valley, New York. Blair D. Siegfried, '81, received a doctorate of entomology from The Pennsylvania State University. He is a researcher at Cornell University. He resides in Ithaca, New York. Denise Sees Walker, '81, is a second grade teacher at Canton Elementary School and coach of the Canton Junior High School volleyball team. She and her fa mily reside in Roaring Branch, Pennsylvania. Luann M. Yohn, '81, is the Lycoming County Prison bail-release officer. She resides in Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania. Ann G . Miller, '82, is the district director of the Lewistown Service Center for the Hemlock Girl Scout Council. She and her husband reside in State College, Pennsylvania. Frederick J. DeLuca, '83, is a social studies teacher and wrestling coach in the Northern York School District. He resides in Dillsburg, Pennsylvania. Pamela S. Buckwalter, '84, married Sherri K. Hunter, '88. He is a ninth grade health teacher and wrestling coach at Lock Haven High School. She is a substitute elemen tary teacher. They reside in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania. Steven W. Donahue, '84, has been promoted to news editor of The Review . He resides in Waverly, New York. Larry G. Steele, '84, is an English teacher at Southern Huntingdon County High School. He resides in Mount Union, Pennsylvania. Danette Bixler-George, '85, is an advocate for the Association of Retarded Citizens of Blair County. She and her family reside in Lakemont, Pennsylvania. John J. Boris, Jr., '85, married Deirdre A. Payne in October 1988. He is a supervisor with the Van Heusen Company. They reside in Pottsville, Pennsylvania. Marine 2nd Lt. Michael K. Chohany, '85, married Sandra L. Betts in December 1988. He is stationed m Quantico, Virginia. Dawn E. Comeau, '85, received a master's degree in psychology from Loyola College. She is a therapist for Hope House, Baltimore, Maryland. She resides in Baltimore. Brian T. Sansoni, '85, is a legislative aide to U.s. Rep. Charles G. Douglas of New Hampshire. He resides in Washington, D.C. Abbie Fisher Vallimont, '85, and her husband are the parents of a son, Daniel Christopher, born in November 1986. They reside in Reading, Pennsylvania. 15 Donald J. Williams, Jr., '85, received a doctoral degree in optometry from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. Steven F. Coffman, '86, married Jean A. Newcomer, '87, in April 1989. He is a reporter for the Finger Lakes Times, Geneva, New York. She is a teacher in the "transition first grade" program in Newark, New York. They reside in Newark. Gretchen M. Gehret, '86, married David S. Van Gorder in June 1988. She is a first grade teacher at McGhee Elemen tary School, Lock Haven, Pennsylvania. They reside in Mill Hall, Pennsylvania. Marine 2nd Lt. Paula C. Nystrom, '86, participated in Teamwork 88 w hile serving with the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point/ North Carolina. Lori A. Schafer, '86, has been selected to represent Dickinson Law School in the J. Braxton Craven, Jr., Memorial Moot Court Competition. She resides in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Stephen R. Selie, '86, married Pamela J. Solick, '88, in April 1989. He is a computer p rogrammer for the Office of Human Resources, The Pennsylvania State University.
