1988 – 1994 : Director of the postgraduate course on "Geographical information technology in the field of<br />

environment" organized by the <strong>EPFL</strong> and the UNITAR (UNDP),<br />

1993 - 1998 : Member of the administrative council of a private consulting office, oriented towards the<br />

management and the equipment of rural land use mainly in developing countries in semi-arid and<br />

arid zones.<br />

Academic activities:<br />

1972 - 1978 : Lecturer at the <strong>EPFL</strong> in the fields of hydrology, applied statistics in hydrology, pedology as well as<br />

land and water improvement and management,<br />

: Lecturer in hydrology and applied statistics on water resources to other universities or<br />

International Institutions, namely at Delft (Holland), Lisbon (Portugal), Oran (Algeria) and Niamey<br />

(Niger),<br />

1979 - 1981 : Professor extra-muros in hydrology at the Polytechnical Institute of Conakry (Guinea),<br />

1983 - 1986 : Extra-ordinary (associate) professor at the <strong>EPFL</strong>, with tenure of the Chair of Rural Engineering,<br />

responsible of the education and research in hydrology, water resources and agricultural<br />

engineering,<br />

Since 1986 : Ordinary professor at the <strong>EPFL</strong>, responsible for the teaching and the development of fundamental<br />

and applied research in the fields of soil physics, hydrology, water resources, land use,<br />

improvement and management,<br />

: Professor in charge of courses on hydrology at the University of Lausanne (Department of<br />

Geography, Faculty of Sciences and Literature) and of courses on hydrology and hydrological risks<br />

at the University of Geneva (Department of Geology, Faculty of Sciences),<br />

1999 - 2002 : Consulting Professor of the Wuhan University, Wuhan City, China,<br />

Since 2002 : Honorary scientific consultant of the National Center for Efficient Irrigation Engineering and<br />

Technology Research (NCEI), Beijing, China.<br />

International activities:<br />

- Expert to the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC),<br />

- Expert to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and to the United Nation’s Program<br />

for the Development (UNDP),<br />

- Consultant for the WMO, FAO, UNESCO, UNEP, UNITAR, BIRD,<br />

- Member of the Committee for the evaluation of projects and institutional bodies (Grenoble<br />

Competence Center on the prevention of natural risks, "Institut National Polytechnique" (INPG),<br />

Grenoble (F), Rural and Agricultural Department, Louvain-la-Neuve University (B), CEREVE<br />

laboratory, “Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées”, Paris (F)),<br />

- Lecturer within the framework of several international education programmes, especially in the<br />

field of hydrology and water resources organized abroad (Romania, Tunisia, Morocco, Burkina<br />

Faso, Wuhan-China),<br />

- Numerous lectures, communications and key-note conference speaker at many congresses and<br />

international scientific and technical symposia, public presentations, scientific and technical<br />

communications,<br />

- Several public conferences at the local and/or national levels for large public and scientific<br />
