WHEREAS, on January 4, 2010, by Ordinance No. 2010-0-001 the City Council adopted the 2012
edition of the International Fire Code as the Fire Code of the City of Laredo; and
WHEREAS, Section 12-2 of the Code of Ordinances adopted the International Fire Code as the Fire
Code of the City of Laredo; and
WHEREAS, the Fire Chief recommends that the adoption of the most recent edition of the
International Fire Code will establish regulations affecting or relating to structure, processes, premises and
safeguards regarding:
1. The hazard of fre and explosion arising fi-om storage, handling or use of structures, materials or
devices;
2. Conditions hazardous to life, property or public welfare in the occupancy of structures or premises;
3. Fire hazard in the structure or on the premises from occupancy or operation;
4. Matters related to the construction, extent, repair, alteration, or removal of fire suppression or alarm
systems; and
5. Conditions affecting the safety of fire fighters and emergency responders, during emergency
operations.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAREDO THAT:
Section 1: Section 12-2 Fire Prevention Code-Adopted.
The city, by and through its city council, hereby adopts the (20W) 2012 edition of the
International Fire Code in its entirely, save and except such portions as are hereinafter deleted,
modified supplemented or amended; and the same is herby adopted and incorporated herein as fully as if
set out at length; and from the date on which this section shall take effect, the provisions of the
International Fire Code (W) 2012 edition and this section shall controlling within the corporate
limits of the city.
Section 2: That one (1) copy of which is on file at the Fire Department Administrative Building of the City
of Laredo, being marked and designated as the International Fire Code, 2012 edition, including Appendix
Chapter A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I.
Section 3: Severabilitv: If any provision, section, subsection, sentence, clause or phase of the ordinance,
or the application of the same to any person or set of circumstance is for any reason held to be
unconstitutional, void or invalid, the validity of the remaining portions of this ordinance swill remain in
full force and effect and all provisions of the ordinance are declared be severable for that purpose.
Section 4. Repeal: All ordinances in conflict with this Ordinance herein adopted are hereby repealed.
Section 5. Penaltv: A violation of any provision or requirement of the o6j 2012 International Fire
Code or this Ordinance shall constitute a Class "C" misdemeanor and shall upon conviction be punishable
by a fine of up to two thousand dollars ($2,000.00)
Section 6. Publication: This Ordinance shall be published once by the City Secretary in a newspaper of
general circulation in the City of Laredo, and shall become effective upon publications.
