DATE: 10/15/2012 INITIATED BY: Jesus Olivares, Assistant City Manager COUNCIL COMMUNICATION SUBJECT: MOTIONS Consideration to authorize a contract for converting ten City owned pickup trucks to operate with a compressed natural gas (CNG) bi fuel system to Caldwell Country, Caldwell, TX in the total amount of $107,800.00 utilizing BuyBoard cooperative purchasing contract pricing. Funding for this purchase is available from Railroad Commission of Texas grant funding to the Environmental Services Department. STAFF SOURCE: Riazul Mia, P.E., Director, Environmental Services Department Francisco Meza, Purchasing Agent PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION: Authorized participation in the BuyBoard Cooperative Purchasing Program. BACKGROUND: The city's existing CNG station is located at: 5710 Daugherty, Laredo, Texas 78401 was upgraded in 201 1 through the ARRA funds to fuel any light-duty trucks or buses. The station is the only public fueling station in Laredo and capable of fueling the private light-duty CNG vehicles as well as the city's existing thirty-six (36) light-duty trucks. City of Laredo also, recently received a Grant from Railroad Commission of Texas to convert 25 light duty trucks to CNG to save the fuel cost. Authorization is requested to purchase perform CNG bi-fuel conversions on ten City owned Ford and Chevrolet trucks. These trucks will be able to operate on both regular gasoline and compressed natural gas (CNG).
