5 SACT a. Receives approval from HQDA.<br />

b. Prepare retirement order if applicable (see para 6–3). The retirement order will contain the control<br />

number. Retirement orders are prepared in accordance with AR 600–8–105. Distribution of the order<br />

will include the ACOM/ASCC/DRU to which the officer is assigned, the servicing finance <strong>and</strong> accounting<br />

center, <strong>and</strong> HRC–Alex<strong>and</strong>ria (AHRC–MSR). Orders formats for all officer retirements are—<br />

(1) 680 – Active <strong>Army</strong><br />

(2) 682 – Other than Active <strong>Army</strong> (OTAA)<br />

(3) 684 – Dual Status<br />

(4) 700 – Amendment of Orders<br />

(5) 705 – Revocation of Orders<br />

c. File approved application <strong>and</strong> allied documents (orders <strong>and</strong> service computation documents) MPF<br />

<strong>and</strong> return to personnel records work center.<br />

d. Provides retirement packet to the officer. Retirement packet will contain the following:<br />

(1) A memor<strong>and</strong>um of instruction.<br />

(2) Computation of service.<br />

(3) Orders with the control number.<br />

Receives <strong>and</strong> processes retirement packet. Final separation forms will cite regulatory authority, <strong>and</strong><br />

SPD as shown in AR 635–5–1.<br />

Task: Process a Retirement Withdrawal or a Change in the Retirement Date<br />

6–21. Rules for processing a retirement withdrawal or a change in the retirement date<br />

a. The request to withdraw or change the effective date of approved retirement applications will only be approved<br />

b y H R C f o r p r o m o t i o n , c o m p a s s i o n a t e r e a s o n s , o r f o r t h e c o n v e n i e n c e o f t h e A r m y . T h e H R C – A l e x a n d r i a<br />

(AHRC–OPD–A) will notify the appropriate MPD/PSB of the approval or disapproval of request <strong>and</strong> issue a new<br />

control number to be used on the amendment or revocation of the retirement order.<br />

b. Retirement applications in lieu of PCS are final.<br />

c. An endorsing comm<strong>and</strong>er may approve a retirement withdrawal, provided a control number has not been issued<br />

or that the retirement application has not been forwarded to the approval authority (HQDA).<br />

d. When an officer has an approved retirement pending <strong>and</strong> is subsequently selected for promotion, he or she may<br />

request to withdraw the application to accept the promotion. However, the officer remains subject to worldwide<br />

assignment according to the needs of the <strong>Army</strong>.<br />

e. When an officer has an approved/pending retirement action, the officer may request to withdraw the subsequent<br />

request or change the requested date of separation in order to continue to serve based upon the needs of the <strong>Army</strong>.<br />

6–22. Steps for processing a retirement withdrawal or a change in the retirement date<br />

The steps required for processing a retirement withdrawal or a change in the retirement date are as shown in table 6–3.<br />

Headquarters, Department of the <strong>Army</strong> (DACH–PER), Chief of Chaplains, 2700 <strong>Army</strong> Pentagon,<br />

Washington, DC 20310–2700, as applicable, to CDR, HRC–Alex<strong>and</strong>ria (AHRC–OPD–A).<br />

Receives the appropriate amendment/revocation of the retirement order <strong>and</strong> processes same.<br />
