TODAY’S READING
CHANGE OUR LIVES
The letters of Paul to the Thessalonians are
among his earliest writings, and are driven by his belief
and the belief of the entire early Christian community
that the return of Christ was imminent, and that devoting
time or attention to anything else was foolish.
As time progressed, this fervor subsided a bit.
Today we may wonder, when we hear these readings
about the coming end-times, if we should take them to
heart, if we really believe that Christ still may come
upon us as a “thief at night” (1 Thessalonians 5:2).
Does this mean that we are to stop our long-range goalsetting,
get rid of our yearly calendars and planners, or
stop putting money in the college education fund? Of
course not. What it does mean is that we need to
change our lives, living like children of the light and
illuminating the world around us with the light of the
gospel. Then, on that day, when the details of our daily
living become unimportant, we will be ready to find
our peace and security in Christ Jesus.

CAMBIA NUESTRAS VIDAS
Las cartas de Pablo a los tesalonicenses están
entre sus primeros escritos movidos por su creencia, y la
creencia de la comunidad de la Iglesia joven, de que el
retorno de Cristo era inminente, y que dedicar tiempo y
atención a otras cosas era tontería.
Con el paso del tiempo este fervor disminuyó
un poco. Hoy, cuando escuchamos sobre la llegada del
fin de los tiempos, podemos preguntarnos si la tenemos
que tomar en serio, si es que realmente creemos que
Cristo todavía puede venir por nosotros como “un ladrón
en la noche” (1 Tesalonicenses 5:2). ¿Significa esto
que debemos ponerle un paro a establecer metas a largo
plazo, despojarnos de nuestros calendarios y agendas
anuales, dejar de ahorrar para una educación universitaria?
Por supuesto que no. Lo que significa es que necesitamos
cambiar nuestra vida, vivir como hijos de la luz e
ir iluminando el mundo que nos rodea con la luz del
Evangelio. Entonces, en aquél día, cuando los detalles
de nuestra vida diaria se tornen poco importantes, estaremos
listos para encontrar nuestra paz y seguridad en
Cristo Jesús.

Donations for the Holiday Food Baskets
Once again in the month of November we are inviting
everyone to participate in our Annual Thanksgiving Food
Drive. Grocery bags are available at the entrances of the
church. Attached is a flyer that will suggest what items
are needed. After you have filled the bag with nonperishable
items, you can either bring the bag to the parish
office or bring it on Thanksgiving Day November 24 th
at the 9AM Mass. Since the pantry is experiencing a
critical shortage of canned goods, let’s try to do our part
and be as generous as we can. Here is a list of nonperishable
items that you may bring. Thank you for your
support and cooperation!
Canned Food: Tuna, corn (15 oz), peas (15 oz) , green
beans (15 oz), whole tomatoes (15 oz), tomato sauce (8
oz), Canned fruit (15 oz) apple juice
(plastic bottles). Rice, pasta, flour,
sugar, boxed cereal, and peanut butter.
The Sacred Heart Conference of the Society of St.
Vincent de Paul is having a Sears Portrait Studio Fundraiser.
Cards are for sale for $10 each which are good for
a FREE Contemporary Portrait Bundle (a $54.95
value). $7 of each card goes back to Sacred Heart's St.
Vincent de Paul Conference to support the parish pantry.
Please consider this fundraiser for family portraits or
to give out as Christmas gifts.

Despensa de Comida para las Canastas
Este mes de Noviembre invitamos a todos a que participen
en nuestra campaña anual de alimentos de Acción de Gracias.
Hay bolsas disponibles en las entradas de la iglesia y
tienen una lista de comida que se necesita. Después que
haya llenado la bolsa con alimentos no perecederos, puede
traerla a la oficina parroquial o a la Misa del Día de Acción
de Gracias, el Jueves, 24 de Noviembre a las 9AM.
Ya que la despensa está pasando una escasez crítica de
alimentos enlatados, vamos a tratar de hacer nuestra parte
y ser lo más generosos posible. Aquí tiene una lista de las
comida que puede donar. ¡Gracias por su apoyo y cooperación!
Puede traer: latas de 15 oz de elote, maíz, habichuelas,
fruta, chicharo, y tomate enteros. Jugos
de manzana (botella de plástico), pastas,
fríjol, y arroz, harina, azúcar, cajas de
cereal, y peanut butter.
Nuestra celebración eucarística de Acción de Gracias
será el 24 de Noviembre, a las 9:00 AM. Será una celebración
con diferentes culturas, por eso les invitamos a
que nos acompañen en dar alabanza y gracias a Dios.

BIBLE STUDY
We are inviting you to join us in the understanding
of our Christian faith through the Scriptures. The
Church “forcefully and specifically exhorts all the
Christian faithful…to learn ‘the surpassing knowledge
of Jesus Christ,’ by frequent reading of the
divine Scriptures. ‘Ignorance of the Scriptures is
ignorance of Christ” (CCC n.133). Come and join
us in our Bible Study every Tuesday at
7pm in room 4 and nurture your faith
and your relationship with Jesus Christ.
