Annual General Meeting notice states that
only financial members may attend. His
interpretation is that financial means 1st May to
30th April annually. J MacFadyen read clause
20(b) in the constitution which states “Fourteen
(14) days notice in writing shall be given to
all persons who are members at the close of
the financial year. The notice convening any
Annual General Meeting shall be delivered or
posted to members, but no proceedings shall be
invalidated by any accidental omission in this
respect.”
J MacFadyen also added that it has been
custom and practice that all financial members
from season 2005-06 were eligible to vote
at the AGM. There was no dissent from the
Presidents Ruling.
Annual report would be good to have circulated
14 days before the Annual General Meeting.
This point was noted.

4. Correspondence
Letter from RJ Tubby was presented requesting
that a notice of motion at the AGM that “An
archival committee of three be officially
included in the club constitution, said
committee to pursue and record past and
present happenings and events within the club,
and to collect and categorise photographs for
future reference. Our current committee has
existed for a period of six years with no official
standing, although recognised by both Branch
and State we have been operating without
official capacity for that period.”
Decision: President MacFadyen stated that this
item could not be dealt with at the AGM as
notice had not been given to the members in
accordance with the constitution Rule 29. A
special general meeting is needed to comply
with the constitution of the club.
General Business
5. A Cameron raised the issue that there was
some conjecture of when the club opened
– was it 1929 or 1930. Either way the club
should celebrate the anniversary. J Bourne
noted that next year may be our 75th year.
Action: Moved J Bourne Seconded A
Cameron that the matter be referred to the
incoming committee to organise a club
reunion in 76th/77th season.
6. P Bagnall asked if we can actually find out
the date of opening.
7. J Linton-Mann asked when the new clubhouse
will be built. J MacFadyen referred to his
Annual Report for the reply. He also added
that finance has been agreed by Gosford City
Council. The issue has been the floor space.
Gosford City Council defined the size as 1033
sq. m. It is anticipated that September 2007 is
when the club will be pulled down.

Fellow Members
It gives me a great deal of pleasure to submit
this report for the 2006/07 seasons.
This season we started with a new Secretary,
Michael Sheehan who took over the role and
performed his duties admirably assisted by
Minute Secretary, Lisa Passmore as did our
Treasurer, Yvonne Hayter. On behalf of all
the members we would like to thank them
for a tremendous effort. Taking on these most
important positions is not easy and they carried
out their duties conscientiously and with a great
deal of confidence.
Another successful season for Killcare SLSC,
with no lives lost and no major incidents. This
is due to the dedication, commitment and
professionalism of our patrolling members who
freely volunteer their valuable time to ensure a
safe swimming environment for the locals and
visitors alike. Please accept my personal thanks
for your courage, skill and commitment.
I would like to especially thank our Club
Captain Peter Bagnall for the proficient manner
in which he made sure our patrol rosters
President’s Report
covered all of our commitments for the season.
Club Vice Captain Neil McMaster ably assisted
Peter especially when he was out with a serious
injury. I would also like to thank those members
who gave up their family commitments and
voluntarily patrolled the beach on Christmas
Day ably assisted Peter. To all patrolling
members you are a credit to Surf Life Saving.
We started the season with only 39 Patrolling
members and ended the season with 50
patrolling members, we also now have 30
qualified IRB Drivers on patrol - a dramatic
improvement on recent years and many
members have gained Radio Officer certificates
as well as Advanced Resuscitation.
Congratulations to all of those members who
achieved SLSA awards during the season, I am
sure you all received a great deal of satisfaction
and knowledge from your participation. These
results would not have been possible, only
for the dedicated commitment by our Chief
Instructor Dave Sneddon and his helpers, which
seen a record number of awards this season, for
our club; 4 Bronze Medallions, 9 Surf Rescue
Certificates, 4 Silver Medallion IRB Drivers,
17 Spinal and Defibrillation Certificates, 3
Assessment Clusta [TAA] Certificates and 17
Cert II in Public Safety certificates.
Jarred Ginsberg our IRB Training Officer was
responsible for the training of 4 members who
completed their Silver Medallion IRB Driver,
and 8 IRB Crew Certificate. A total of 54 awards
for the season, this is a tremendous effort and I
am confident the Club is in good hands with the
continued support of these dedicated members.
I take this opportunity to thank Cathryn
McMaster our Youth Development Officer

assisted by Phil Scutts, our Rookie Co-ordinator
and Lauren Bagnall, our Cadet Coordinator
plus the Age Managers, water safety patrols and
the mum’s and dad’s for the tremendous job
they performed during the season to make our
Nippers, Rookies and Cadet programs more
interesting and rewarding.” A job well done.”
I would on behalf all members congratulate
those members who competed at Branch, State
and Australian Surf Carnivals, in particular I
would like to mention the magnificent effort of
the U19 team in securing the silver medal at the
State titles.
Congratulations to Brice Johnson on being
selected and appointed team Captain of the
Central Coast Inter-Branch Team and also being
selected in the State team that competed in
South Australia
Unfortunately our Open Men’s Beach Relay
team were blown at both the State and
Australian Titles, the record they have created at
the World and Aussie Titles will stand for many
years to come
In January this year our Club hosted a Senior
Surf carnival that went off without a hitch, this
was due to all of those dedicated members who
acted as officials or helped out on the day. This
is the first Senior Carnival we have had at our
beach for about 35 years, a great effort by all of
those concerned.

through our Door Knock Appeal and your
individual donations. A very special thanks to
the all of the of members who assisted on our
Annual Door Knock Appeal, this was one of the
largest turn out for our appeal and your efforts
really paid off, this is a great effort.
The planning for the new Surf Club is nearing
finalisation the DA has been submitted to
Council and is being assessed by Councils DAU.
It will then be submitted to Council for approval
and tenders called for the demolition and
erection of the new Club House, which should
happen prior to Christmas, and construction
should start in February 2008. I have been
advised it should take 6 months to build. I
would like to thank Gosford City Council for
having the foresight to see the growth potential
in Surf Life Saving and for the initiative in the
Surf Club replacement program. Thanks to the
building Committee for the effort they have
put in to make this project come to fruition,
especially Karen Burke for her creative designs.
Our Social Committee are busy organizing our
75th Reunion which will be held on the 18th August 2007 this will be the last formal function
to be held in the Club before it is pulled down.
To the Committee and all members thank you
for your assistance and co-operation throughout
the season, you certainly made my job easy.

Secretary’s Report
This was my second year as Secretary for the
Club and I have found it just as enjoyable
and rewarding as last year. This year was
made easier for me due to Michael Sheehan
sharing the role with me. Michael looked after
all the correspondence, which is a very time
consuming part of the secretary’s role. Michael
put a lot of time and effort into his role, which
I am sure, was greatly appreciated by the
Committee. He always knew what was going
on and what was coming up – staying one step
ahead of the rest of us. I would also like to thank
those members of the Committee who provided
me with monthly reports.

Congratulations and a big thank you go to all
the patrolling members of Killcare Surf Club for
making it a fatality free and safe place to swim
in the 2006/07 season.
This season was a little more demanding than
the past season with me having to drop the
number of patrols from eight to seven due to a
few retirees from the previous season. This lead
to two extra patrols each and with the addition
of additional hours in the summer peak season
certainly placed a strain on resources due to the
size of our club. Compared with some of the
larger clubs being able to do half-day patrols
due to the number of their member base, I feel
the full day patrols are the better way to go
especially for members from other areas.
A big thank you goes to my Vice Captain, Neil
McMaster, for all his hard work in compiling
patrolling statics and members hours throughout
the season. A point noticed this season is for the
importance of all members to make sure they
are logged on at the start of each patrol. This
is not only important for your own personnel
and insurance issues, but also for 100% patrol
attendance prizes and competitors wishing to

compete, also Neil’s efforts in conducting club
handicapped events each week and the threeround
club championships. This was especially
appreciated in the busy months of January and
February when I was out of action due to illness.
Another big thankyou and congratulations
on a job well done goes to Jared Ginsburg
and his efforts in keeping the IRBs running
in top condition this season. This was Jared’s
first season in such a position and he did a
remarkable job in was a difficult season due
to water restriction and a lot of hours through
the week was done to keep these vital pieces
of rescue equipment operational. I would also
like to take this opportunity to thank Steven
Ginsburg for his help in maintaining the IRBs as
well.
During the season Killcare held an Open
Branch Surf Carnival the first in many years
at Killcare beach. Whilst the weather most
not as favourable as we would have liked, I
only received positive comments from branch
members and competitors alike. A big thanks
goes to all members who worked on the day to
make it a success and look forward to hosting
another next season now we know that it’s not
that hard. (I will even try and attend the next
one instead of laying around in hospital bed).
A big thankyou also goes to John Bourne, John
Kearnes, Jared and Lauren Ginsburg, Craig
Bentley, Tony Newton, Neil, Cathryn, Luke and
Kate McMaster, Lisa Passmore for giving up part
of their day to patrol Killcare on Christmas Day.
This time is given up in exchange for quality
family time and is much appreciated.
Congratulations goes to Paul Duffy and PATROL
8 on receiving the very prestigious patrol of the
year award for the 2006/07 season. This is a
very desirable award and well done to the rest
of the patrol members Paul Duffy, Greg Ford,
Suzie Noakes, Christine Ford, Scott Norris,
Kathryn Norris, Lauren Ginsburg, Moya Burke,
Kate McMaster and Jackson Duffy.
I would also like to thank Lauren Bagnall and
Samatha for organising and facillating in the
road trip to Crowdy Head for the cadet members
of our club. This trip was run for the 2nd year
and numbers were doubled from the first trip.
I feel these trips away are a very important
element in the building of the youth of our club
and building friendships and I have been very
fortunate to have had the trust of the parents to
take these young adults away on these trips. I
would also like to thank Crowdy Head for their
hospitality and look forward to when Killcare
host the Crowdy Heads cadets when our new
club is complete
In closing thank you all again for helping
make Killcare a safe place to swim and
enjoy the beach in 2006/2007 season and
thank everybody for their support over the
last two seasons. Unfortunately due to work
commitments it is with much regret that I will
not be able to stand for this positon next season.
I wish the next Club Captain all the best and
will offer my support where ever possible and
hope all members give the new captain as much
support as you have given me in the past.

Vice Captain’s Report
Congratulations to all members who
participated in the regular handicap events and
the club championship days. Again this year
the sportsmanship and spirit displayed, and the
enjoyment of just having a go, were a pleasure
to be involved with.
The most pleasing aspect from a club point of
view is that many of the major senior events
were taken out by young competitors who have
been involved with the club since their early
nipper days.
This year the handicap events were held on a
regular basis with a lot of individuals competing
throughout the season. There were a total of 58
members who competed at different stages this
season which is a big lift in overall numbers

from last season. With the handicap events
over the past two seasons, younger competitors
have featured prominently in the top points
scorers. This season saw a new group of young
competitors come up and take out most of
the handicap event placings which is very
promising. See the handicap events results for
complete list of place getters.
There were three championship days held this
season with competition strong in most age
groups. It was great to see the Men’s Over 50
events were hotly contested again this season
with some competitors returning to competition.
It was also great to be able to hand out an award
for the Women’s Over 50 championships this
season for the first time in a number of years.
Again the Over 30s events were very even
with a lot of competitors vying for the top
places. In all there were 11 female and 22 male
competitors across all of the age groups. See the
club championship results for complete list of
place getters.
Thank you to all competitors this season for
your co-operation and enthusiasm. Big thanks to
Club Captain, Peter Bagnall, for all his assistance
with setup and running events. Thanks also
to all patrol captains and members for the
assistance in setting up the buoys for the club
swim and championship days and for providing
water safety. Also a special thanks to those who
helped with running the events - Bill Norris,
John Bourne, Steve and Cathy Ginsburg and
Julia McEwen. These people were great help in
starting events for both the championship and
handicap events and in determining placing for
each event.

Club Coach Report
Another season has come and gone and I
believe a very successful season, the patrols and
the weekend Club events went very well and
this of course is attributed to our Captain Peter
Bagnall and also V/C Neil McMaster, they are
always on duty to make sure this side of the
Club runs like a well oiled machine.
I think everyone in the Club realizes now that
the Club does not run without assistance, and
many hands make light work, this was evident
when we had our best turn up for many years at
the annual “door knock appeal” and the money
raised was excellent.
Another outstanding effort was the Club’s local
surf carnival the first for many years and it was
a success, although the weather was totally
against us the layout of the total area was as
good as any seen at a local carnival.
Congratulations to Brice Johnson who this
season was selected in the N.S.W. team to
compete at the Interstate Championships held in
South Australia, Brice is Killcare’s third State rep
after Brian Gregory (1969) and Steve Munnery

( 2002,03,04) As usual Brice represented our
Club with pride.
It was really good to see the odd swimmer
competing this year, especially at our carnival,
would be a thought to apply for the Branch
Championships in the not to distant future.
Mid week board and ski training has been
incorporated into the training process and
Jim Willis who has returned to the fold, is the
driving force behind this venture and it is good
to see he is receiving the assistance required
from the executive.
Jared Ginsburg has taken to the rescue duck
training, he has set a precedent in the Club that
has been lacking for quite a few years, maybe
we can compete again as we did a few years
ago, at top level.
The Branch Championships this year was very
encouraging and our junior ranks really showed
us we can compete with the best, there are
some very talented and aggressive competitors
here and we can look forward to good results in
the future.
Alex Burke had some excellent results in the
individual events, and Andrew Hopper made
a great return to competiton to snare the open
men’s beach sprint.
State Championships were held at Cronulla this
year and it was a very rewarding result for our
U19 beach relay team, knocking on the door
for a few years this very talented foursome after
just qualifying for the final, lead till the last 20
metres and finished a great second behind the
great Wanda team. Team consisted of Scott
Norris, Khan Porter-Witt, Dean Porto and Luke
McMaster.
Other results Brice Johnson placed 2nd . In
the open sprint and Dean Porto securing the
bronze the U19 sprints, both outstanding efforts.
Marcus Kain and Joel Maybury made the final of
the sprint.
The Australian titles held in Perth for the first
time in many years were not our best result, for
the first time for 8 years we did not make the
medal dias.
Our stand outs were Dean Porto who made the
final of the U -19 sprint and finished very close
to the medals, Hayley Kain who was excellent
all year finishing a creditable 5th . In the Open
Women’s Sprint semi final.
Only six competitors went to Perth, and each
one competed at a high level.
We look forward to once again raising the bar
next season.

IRB Captains Report
I would like to say that I have thoroughly
enjoyed being IRB Captain this season. I would
like to thank Peter Bagnall for his input on some
Killcare Surf Lifesaving Club 2006-2007

matters and helping me to come up to speed
at the start of the season. I would also like to
thank my father Steve Ginsburg for his help
with keeping the outboards going hence saving
the surf club plenty of money throughout the
season.
The IRB’s this season proved their importance
through numerous rescues throughout the
season, being ultilised for water safety for the
various club events and the conducting of
preventative actions.
The patrolling IRB drivers and crew are to be
congratulated on the effort they put in with
providing water safety on Sunday mornings for
the nipper club events. They should also be
pleased that a job well done is in order for the
pre and post operational maintenance on the
IRB’s and motors was carried out satisfactorily
even though the conditions that we could use
no water due to the water restrictions.
At the commencement of the season we
received a new IRB outboard motor from
Gosford City Council through the Water Safety
Levy, improving the reliability of the IRB when
it counts.
During the season a number of members
attained their IRB Crew and Silver Medallion
IRB Driver’s which is great to see. I was assisted
by Jonathan Burke and Craig Bentley who
offered me guidance and years of experience
that I do not have at this stage as I have only
held my IRB Drivers for one season now and
this was the first time I have had to train the IRB
courses. I would like to thank Jonathan Burke
and Craig Bentley for their help and input in the
training of the two IRB Courses.
The result was 2 members gaining their IRB
Drivers, 1 member gaining their IRB Crew and
IRB Drivers and 4 members gaining their IRB
Crew. Congratulations to all. IRBs’ are being
relied on more and more to carry out rescues so
this is a great increase to the strength of patrols.
I am pleased to say that Killcare was in
attendance at the 2007 Year of the Surf Lifesaver
Australia Day celebrations on Sydney harbor
on the 26th January 2007. Killcare took down
one IRB and a surfboat. Thanks to all those who
were involved and especially for the spectators
from the club who were in attendance. A great
day was had by all and I am sure the memories
will stay with them for a long time. This helped
raise the profile of Killcare within the Central
Coast Brach and also at state and national level.
We now have three IRB’s and three outboard
motors with one outboard motor due to go
back to Gosford Council at the commencement
of next season and in return we shall receive
Killcare Surf Lifesaving Club 2006-2007

another new outboard motor again through the
Gosford City Council Water Safety Levy.
I would like to thank Craig who owns the
Liberty Service station Empire Bay for their
generous donations of fuel each week for the
patrols and club events. With the price of full at
the moment and over the past season this has
saved the club a great deal of money.
Thanks to all those who helped out with the
IRBs over the season and we look forward to
a better season in 2007/2008 after having a
well deserved break over the coming winter off
season.

Junior Club Captain
This year was my first year as Junior Club C
aptain and I really enjoyed it. It was a very good
experience even though it was difficult at times.
I would firstly just like to thank Lauren Bagnall
for all the help and guidance she has given me
through-out this season. Without it I would have
been lost.
This year I organised a number of social events
for the cadets including several movie nights
with pizza & a cadet Christmas get together. We
also went on our annual road trip to Crowdy
Head, Harrington in the April holidays. Many
Killy Cadets at Crowdy
thanks to Peter Bagnall, Lauren Bagnall and
Sam for the great effort they did organising the
road trip and a big thanks to Peter Bagnall as
it couldn’t have gone a head without the bus
driver!! Twelve cadets attended this year and we
all had a great time competing against Crowdy
Head in their club champs, socialising with
them and just all hanging out together.
This year a few cadets got involved in programs
outside of the Killcare Surf Club. Jared Ginsburg
was fortunate enough to be selected in to the
18-25 years National Development Camp which
was held down in Wollongong from the 7th of
January to the 14th of January which was a great
opportunity for him.
This season I applied for the Surf Life Saving
National Youth Forum (14-17 years) held at
Collaroy, Sydney Northern Beaches and which I
was fortunate enough to be accepted into. It was
a great learning experience and I gained lots of
new skills which I am able to put into practice
in the club.
Other significant achievements which the some
of the cadets attained were gaining medals at
State level of competition. Also many of us this
season gained awards such as IRB drivers and
crew and first aid. Good work to Moya Burke,
Kathryn Norris and Scott Norris as they are the
youngest new IRB drivers in the Club.

Overall a very enjoyable season for the cadets
and I look forward to next season.

Junior Activities Report
Nippers had a great season with an enthusiastic
attendance. We had some big surf over the
season and it was difficult to hold water events
every week. Hopefully next season will see all
the Nippers spending lots of time each Sunday
developing their water skills.
Welcome to the new families to the Club and
we were also very glad to see a few former
members return to Nippers and Rookies.
Thanks to the following Age Managers
especially the Cadets who ran the age groups
each week. Rookies – Phil Scutts, Moya Burke
and Lauren Ginsburg, U11-U12 – Julia McEwen
and Wendy Best, U10 – Phil Passmore and
Andrew Cole, U9 – Ian Hughes and David
Abrahams, U8 – Hanni Witt and Yvonne
Hayter, U6-U7 – Steve Hayter and Justine
Sneddon. Their assistants were Alex Burke,
James Scutts, Rhys Cooper and John Kearnes.
The Age-Managers main role is to educate
the juniors in surf skills such as reading the
surf, looking for rips etc. The children are
encouraged to enter all the events especially the
swim and board where they can gain confidence
and lifesaving skills.
We cannot run our water events each week
with Bronze Medallion and SRC member
assistance. Therefore great thanks to our
regular water safety, especially Neil McMaster
who coordinated the teams – Jim Porter, Rhys
Cooper, Alex Burke, Kynan Hughes, Fiona
Canty, David Sneddon, Jared Ginsburg and
Steve Ginsburg (my apologies to anyone I’ve
missed). Club Captain, Peter Bagnall organized
for the Sunday patrols to provide an IRB and
crew to assist with the water safety. I thank
Pete and all the patrols for their continued
commitment in giving support to the junior
members.
Killcare was represented at Branch, which was
held at Avoca Beach, by the following Juniors:
Ossie Abrahams, Jessica McCarthy, Tom
Passmore, Scott McMaster, Sunniva Abrahams,
Bonnie Cooper, Jake McCarthy, Mitchell Cole,
Dante Porter-Witt, Taylor Flynn and Tom Scutts.
Scott was third in U10 flags, Dante was third in
U14 flags, Taylor was third in U14 beach sprint
and U14 relay team was also third. Well done
team!!
Jim Willis, board and swim coach, ran training
for Nippers each Monday afternoon either at
Killcare or Putty Beach. An enthusiastic and

egular group attended these sessions and their
growth in confidence and skills was evident
when it came to Pointscore days. Jim is updating
and gaining new skills and awards during the
off-season and he will be running board training
from the start of next season. All Nippers
and Rookies are encouraged to attend these
sessions, Jim making training lots of fun while
encouraging the development of water and
board skills. Hope to see lots of juniors there!!
Beach setup and pack up is provided by
parents and rostered each week according to
age groups. This system seems to the best and
will be continued next season. Thank you to
the parents who were reliable and punctual in
helping when required.
The Killcare SLSC Committee has shown
constant support throughout the season for the
Juniors and I thank them for all their assistance,
especially Yvonne Hayter, Peter Bagnall, Neil
McMaster, John Kearnes and Lauren Ginsburg
who also assist each Sunday.
Wendy Sheehan has been fantastic this year
in her role as board captain. Wendy, together
with Michael, had organized repairs and storage
at the commencement of the season and have
regularly assessed all boards for damage and
arranged for any repairs to be carried out.

I have really enjoyed my position of board & ski
captain, especially as paddling is my passion.
There we a number of minor repairs, mainly to
rescue boards. At present the club has in use

1 double ski
With more interest in board classes during the
season the club is in need of more race boards
in the future.
