School Play “Dumb Luck” subpar

“Dumb Luck” was put on by the
Spanaway Lake theatre department
from May 10-13. The play was far from
bad. The only real thing I can complain
about is that I felt “Frankenstien,”
a play performed earlier this year,
was better. The one set was nothing
compared to the numerous sets in
Frankenstien. Do not get me wrong this
play was great. I just felt the it did not
compare well to their previous play.
The following was written on the
back of the fl yer given to the audience
before the show. “Working class
widow Sally Flynn has won a million
dollars! This seeming dream-cometrue
turns quickly into a nightmare of
comic complications. Overnight, the
earthly, strong-willed Sally is thrown
into a whirlwind of unwanted fame,
galloping avarice, and general human
craziness...Sally meets her disrupted
life with salty good humor, ingenuity,
and the human integrity that is at the
serious heart of this very funny play”.
The whole cast did an awesome
job with their lines. They all seemed
to really be into the play which makes
the play that much better. This group
of people really work well together.
Tiffany Navaro played the lucky Sally
Flynn. Again Tiffany did a wonderful job
bringing her character to life. You can
really feel the emotion come out through
Navaro. Ryan Quinn also did a great
job playing Padraic Flynn. One of the
funnier characters to me had to be Chris
Hill. He had just a comedic presence.
It was wonderful to watch. This was a
great play and for all of you that did not
Time to have a blast in the sun

Having fun this summer will be a
priority for most Sentinels. Whether you
play sports, travel, or like to just hang
around, we have some ideas to help you
beat the heat and enjoy the sun.
The best part of the
summer is the Fourth
of July. The usual
highlight of
Independence
Day is watching
f i r e w o r k s .
However, some
people celebrate
the Fourth in
other ways.
Some people
have barbeques
and enjoy spending
time with families and

friends. A great place to
watch a show of fi reworks fl ying
through the air is over by Fort Lewis.
Having parties with friends and good food
can be fun, but some people enjoy going to
see blockbuster movies over the holiday.
The weather this summer will provide
enjoyment and relaxation for those who
enjoy spending time in the sun. A great
local spot to tan is Spanaway Park. There
are nice open areas where you can lay out
and soak in the rays. Those of you who
are into extreme water sports, jet skiing
and boating on a variety of lakes and
rivers here in the Northwest can be a
wonderful way to beat the heat and
have fun at the same time. For those
who do not like to brave the waves,
but want to spend time in the water, a
nice trip to Wild Waves is always fun.
For a calmer and cooler water
experience, head down
to the ocean beaches
to catch fi sh, collect
rocks and shells.
Some
Sentinels enjoy
staying in and
enjoying the
summer and
the sun from
the comfort of
their couches.
With almost
three months off,
it’s a good time to
catch up on your video
games. You’ll have to wait
until November for the Playstation
3 to come fl ying onto shelves with
numerous game titles to follow.
However, until then the Xbox 360
and other gaming consoles will
have to tide you over until then.
Enjoy yourselves this summer
because in no time at all, we will
all have to start the routine again
and all of our summer fun will
have to wait until next summer.

my collection of favorite books. Any
person who has ever wondered what
it would be like to step out of their
daily routines and explore
life from a different
perspective will love
this book. It will take
you on a wild adventure
of what it is like to roam
the city streets with no
parental supervision.
As a little girl, Sara
Shaw’s mother left
her with her dad. She
constantly longs to know
who her mother was.
After Shaw’s father catches
her in the garden doing something
she is not supposed to, he leaves her
with his girlfriend while he goes off.
When Shaw’s father leaves, her
world starts to head down hill. She
skips school, hangs out with the wrong
people, and starts doing drugs. Soon

A tasty summer treat for your stomach

Now that school is almost out and
summer is heading our way its time
to have some cool treats to make it
through the hot summer months.
Vacation is on everybody’s mind, so
the chosen desert is inspired from
the hot spot of Cabo, Mexico. The
food of the issue is fried ice cream.
Fried Ice cream is a sweet dessert with a
twist. The ingredients to this dessert are:
• 1-quart vanilla ice cream
• 1 cup crushed frosted
•
cornfl akes
1 cup sweetened coconut fl akes
or 1 cup chopped walnuts or 1
cup of cookie crumbs
• 2 large eggs
• 2 tablespoon of sugar
• Vegetable oil
• Hot chocolate sauce (optional)
• Whipped cream (optional)
To start making the delicious desert
you need a lined sheet of wax paper.
Take an ice cream scoop and make
4 large balls of ice cream and place
it on the waxed paper and cover it
with plastic wrap. Place the ice cream
balls inside the freezer for two hours.
The next step is to take a bowl and
combine the cornfl akes crumbs with
either coconut, walnuts or the cookie
crumbs. Then dip the ice cream
balls in the mixture until cover and
then freeze for another 30 minutes.
In a second bowl, beat the eggs and
sugar. Dip the ice cream in the egg
mixture and then completely cover the
ice cream again with the crumb mixture.
Freeze the ice cream for another hour.
Heat a large pot full of vegetable
oil, enough to cover the top of the ice
cream balls. Make sure the temperature
has reached 400 degrees F. One at a
time slowly put the ball in the oil and
fry until golden brown. Each ice cream
ball should take about 30 seconds to a
minute to fry. Remove from the oil and
place in a dessert bowl. If you want you
can add hot chocolate sauce or whip
cream. Repeat same steps for all the
ice cream. Serve the delicious treat
immediately after preparing and sit
and enjoy the nice hot summer days.
A look inside a different life
Shaw returns to her school during a
pep assembly and gets into trouble.
When Shaw meets up with a girl
named Justin K, she wants to be
just like her. Realizing too late that
being like K is not a good thing, Shaw
gets herself caught up into a
crime that could leave Shaw
in trouble with the law.
When a man Shaw has run
into before gets hospitalized,
police suspect Shaw and K
have something to do with
it. The police take Shaw into
custody and question her
only to fi nd out nothing.
With her father’s
whereabouts unknown,
police get aggravated and
turn to peers of Shaw at
her high school. With the principal of
Mt. Douglas on their side, the police
uncover juicy details that could keep
Shaw in custody. Will Shaw remain in
custody? What are the causes of her
getting in trouble? What is it really like
to live on the streets? You will have to
read the book to fi nd out!
