Spanaway Lake’s annual
Senior Ball was held on May 27.,2006.
Hundreds of seniors and their dates
arrived at the beautiful Temple Theatre
in downtown Tacoma to dance the night
away dressed in their best formal wear.
Many came in rented vehicles
or limousines and strutted their stuff into
this corner grand theatre. The entrance
was guarded by administration waiting
to take tickets and check ASB cards.
“Everyone looked so beautiful,” said
Allison Wilburn, a senior. “Everything
was so perfect; the dresses, the
decorations, everything was fabulous.”
The theme of the ball was
“Phantom of the Opera.” Guests were
treated to themed decorations and
professional pictures were available
with three different backgrounds. All
backgrounds matched the theme of the
ball making for a proper memory of the
night.
Drinks and desserts were
Immigration supporters
rally for worker’s rights
such practices, has the United States
rooted the perpetrators? It’s not as
easy as it appears. Illegal workers
have been noted for their ingenuity,
and communication networks. Any
personal data that can be erased to
stall any chance of removal is used.
Companies who are paying higher
tariffs and taxes wish the United States
to ignore it due to cheap labors costs. If
the government can send these millions
of illegal immigrants, we will end up
paying more to over seas markets, we
will lose jobs more frequently. In the
end result the government collects
less taxes. Amount of taxes missed
by illegal immigrants is estimated at
35 billion, estimates of tax missed by
jobs sent overseas are undetermined.
Decision made will be economically
based at best.
So as the dogs keep nipping
at each other what is being done?
President George W Bush is proposing
guest worker passes for all those who
have illegally came into the United
States. However the condition is
that these illegal immigrants come
forward. So does the government want
this workforce in here? Or is it simply
too hard to handle stay tuned.
complimentary at the ball. Everything
from small cakes and fi nger food to
a streaming chocolate fountain were
available to all with an appetite. Water
and punch was served as well. “I loved
the little key lime pies,” said Curtis
Theimer, a senior. “But the chocolate
fountain just wasn’t for me.” The
infamous chocolate fountain came with
marshmallows, fruit, and pretzels to
dip with. Table and chairs were also
available for students to relax in.
The disc jockey was positioned
on top of the Temple stage. Students
danced on the fl oor below the stage. Hiphop
and R&B were the popular choice
of the night for dancing. “Dancing was
so much fun,” said Rachellle Frymire, a
junior. “Everyone was kicking back and
having a good time.” By the end of the
night, the ball was deemed a success.
The pictures were taken, the food had
been eaten, and the guest left with a
memory of an awesome night. “I don’t
think anything could top this night,”
said Trevor Foote, a senior “Its going to
be hard for the next graduating class to
measure up to us.”
