The only major port in Gujarat, Kandla-Vadinar Port, and two all weather ports Okha and Sikka are located in the Gulf. Rozi Bandar, near Jamnagar and Adani Port near Mundra on Kachchh coast, are the other ports which are being developed very fast as all weather ports also. Another all weather and deep- draught port has been planned to be located at Poshitra near Okha. Shipping traffic with its associated problems of oil spill, garbage and ballast water disposal always create threats to the harbor basins and their adjacent waters. The three districts around the Gulf together have 21 salt. industries producing about 6.1 MT or nearly two-thirds of the State and 70% of India. Gulf of Kachchh Desalination of seawater to the tune of 11,400 m'd. l for RPL and 32,000 m' d' l for EOL are being carried out to produce freshwater. Disposal of concentrated brine (bittern) together with its seepage from the salt pans could pose a threat in the long run. i. Natural threats The history of this area is continuously under the threats of natural disasters like cyclone,. drought and earthquake.
