Habitat: very rare, endemic fern of wooded slopes and<br />

mossy ledges in mid-elevation rainforests.<br />

Material examined: BASSE TERRE: Saut d’Eau du<br />

Matouba, Thiébaut 16 (P); Matouba, Rivière St Louis,<br />

Duss 734 (P). Localities: path of Cascade Vauchelet<br />

near Sainte Claude (Vivant, 1989a).<br />

Note: As Proctor (1977) also stated, this species differs<br />

from Polystichopsis muscosa (Vahl) Proctor, in its<br />

much smaller stature, more delicate blade texture<br />

and more elongated blade apices, giving this species a<br />

different general appearance.<br />

Note: This species closely resembles P. echinatum of<br />

the Greater Antilles and may be conspecific.<br />
