[Pteris argyraea T.Moore, Gard. Chron. 1859: 671.<br />

1859. Type: South India, cultivated by Veitch and<br />

son, not located. A specimen in BM: ‘cult in Kew’, ex<br />

herbarium John Smith 1860 is in existence and<br />

may well be what the species was based on, but it<br />

is dated post-publication. There are no specimens of<br />

this species in the Thomas Moore herbarium at K.<br />

When no other material is found, the specimen<br />

from the John Smith herbarium can be considered<br />

the neotype (designated here).<br />

Habitat: this species from tropical Asia is commonly<br />

offered in supermarkets on Guadeloupe and may<br />

easily naturalize.]<br />
