Assessment of Uncertainties of the Parameters in Water Saturation
Calculations and Experimental Determination of These Parameters in a
Carbonate Reservoir
In field appraisal and reserve estimation studies, generally one of the biggest uncertainties comes
from water saturation calculations. Mostly the reason of this uncertainty is the high costs of
direct measurements of original water saturation from cores causing determination of this value
indirectly from open-hole well logs. Saturation values in clean carbonates are calculated by using
the well known equation of Archie and all, especially a, m, n and Rw, parameters in this equation
contain high uncertainties. In this study, uncertainty related to the mentioned parameters is
investigated in an interpretation of a well penetrated a carbonate reservoir. Differences between
the results of the studies to obtain these parameters in laboratory and generally accepted
standard values are tried to be stated.
