Beta-sitosterol is present in a wide variety of plants (and therefore in most diets) and<br />

possesses a wide spectrum of biological activities. This chapter presents the results,<br />

following administration ofbeta-sitosterol to Sprague-Dawley rats.<br />

Table C3-1 shows the amount of food and water taken in by the rats in the six-day<br />

period. Food and water consumption did not appear to differ markedly in any group<br />

treated with beta-sitosterol when it was compared with the control groups over the six­<br />

day period.<br />
