Little Miss Moosehump
Sat on a tree stump
And cawed in her ear –
Caw! Caw!
And caused poor Miss Moosehump to panic!
Three Prime Mink
Three prime mink, three prime mink,
Run through the snow, run through the snow,
They all run away from the trapper’s wife
To save their fur from a skinning knife,
Have you ever seen such a sight in your life
As three Prime Mink ?

2) Read I Can’t Have Bannock But the Beaver Has A Dam.
3) Get ready to make your morning snack.
Ask the children if they have ever made bannock.
Everyone needs to wash his or her hands!
Put on smocks or aprons.
Take out the cooking tools and ingredients. Place all tools
and ingredients in the middle of the table so that you
won’t have to disrupt the cooking to get something.
Explain that everyone will have a chance to help with the
bannock, and that we have to take turns!
Place the laminated recipe on the table and follow it.
While one teacher cooks, the others may engage the
children in clean up (including washing hands again if
necessary).
Enjoy your snack!

Snack Time Recipe – Bannock
This is just one way to make bannock. You may have a favourite
recipe you want to use instead.
You will need:
4 cups flour
1 cup sugar
4 tablespoons oil or lard
Water (about 2 cups)
1 cup raisin
4 teaspoons salt
4 teaspoons baking
powder
1) Sit the children around the table. Put bowls with the flour, sugar
and raisins in the middle, as well as other ingredients.
2) Allow each child to be responsible for adding an ingredient.
Get the children to count out loud as they add each cup or
teaspoon of an ingredient.
3) Mix together the dry ingredients, followed by the oil or lard,
which you can rub in. Add the water, and mix the dough. You
may need to add more water if the dough is too dry.
4) Turn out the dough onto a floured counter. Knead it for about 2
minutes.
5) Flatten the bannock out until it is about 2cm thick. Place it on a
cookie sheet.
6) Bake at 350 degrees for about 20 minutes, flipping it over part
way through.

Craft Time – Toilet Paper Roll Beaver
1. Cover the toilet paper roll with
brown construction paper. You could
have the pieces of construction paper
pre-cut to make things quicker.
2. Have a circle cut from the
construction paper. Allow the
children to draw a face on the circle.
3. Glue the circle to the top of the toilet paper tube.
4. Tape a pipe cleaner to the back of the roll and bend in place
for arms.
5. Cut an oval shape from felt and tape or glue the end just
under the bottom edge of the toll.
6. Give your beaver a name!!
