scientific relations in <strong>the</strong> fields <strong>of</strong> medical ethics<br />

and medical law. The society has 17 founder members.<br />

<strong>Society</strong>’s Logo with serpent and scales has been<br />

designed by painter Jale Yavuz.<br />

<strong>Society</strong> has <strong>the</strong> international characteristics and<br />

in order to achieve <strong>the</strong>se objectives, it shall per<strong>for</strong>m<br />

<strong>the</strong> following activities:<br />

a) To follow and encourage <strong>the</strong> scientific<br />

research on medical ethics and medical law in<br />

Turkey and in <strong>the</strong> world.<br />

b) To help solving <strong>the</strong> problems <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> medical<br />

ethics and medical law in <strong>the</strong> health foundations,<br />

to provide assistance to <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficial<br />

authorities and educational institutions about<br />

<strong>the</strong> subjects indicated in <strong>the</strong> aims section.<br />

c) To help to provide postgraduate education in<br />

<strong>the</strong> fields <strong>of</strong> medical ethics and medical law<br />

with <strong>the</strong> aim <strong>of</strong> helping <strong>the</strong> people working in<br />

<strong>the</strong> health branch to deal with <strong>the</strong> problems<br />

<strong>the</strong>y may face when <strong>the</strong>y are providing health<br />

services.<br />

d) To per<strong>for</strong>m <strong>the</strong> national and <strong>the</strong> international<br />

scientific projects and researches in <strong>the</strong> fields<br />

<strong>of</strong> medical ethics and medical law.<br />

e) To provide <strong>the</strong> print <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> international scientific<br />

journal as <strong>the</strong> publication organ if a financial<br />

source can be found.<br />

f) To provide <strong>the</strong> possibilities in order to train <strong>the</strong><br />

researchers in <strong>the</strong> fields <strong>of</strong> medical ethics and<br />

medical law and to support <strong>the</strong> scientific projects<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> researchers from abroad on Turkish<br />

medical ethics and medical law.<br />

g) To hold <strong>the</strong> national and <strong>the</strong> international congress,<br />

symposium, panel and meetings in <strong>the</strong><br />

field <strong>of</strong> medical ethics and medical law.<br />

h) To provide <strong>the</strong> scientific relations with <strong>for</strong>eign<br />

societies, institutes and universities and to<br />

coordinate <strong>the</strong> international meetings in <strong>the</strong><br />

fields <strong>of</strong> medical ethics and medical law to<br />

transfer scientific developments in this field in<br />

<strong>for</strong>eign countries to Turkey and <strong>the</strong> related<br />

developments in Turkey to o<strong>the</strong>r countries<br />

when necessary.<br />

i) To cooperate and coordinate <strong>the</strong> scientific relations<br />

with o<strong>the</strong>r national and international similar<br />

and relevant entities to invite guest<br />

researchers in accordance with <strong>the</strong> 5 th article<br />

and conditions <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Law <strong>for</strong> Associations and<br />

in <strong>the</strong> order projected by <strong>the</strong> regulations.<br />

1. SYMPOSIUM ON MEDICAL<br />

ETHICS AND LAW (27 May 2005)<br />

WITH INTERNATIONAL<br />

PARTICIPATION<br />

This symposium is <strong>the</strong> first activity <strong>of</strong> <strong>Society</strong> <strong>for</strong><br />

Medical Ethics and Law. The aim <strong>of</strong> this society is to<br />

develope scientific researches, to support education<br />

<strong>of</strong> medical ethics and law and to provide international<br />

scientific relations in <strong>the</strong> field <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> medical ethics<br />

and law. <strong>Society</strong> <strong>for</strong> Medical Ethics and Law will<br />

hold <strong>the</strong> symposium with <strong>the</strong> collaboration <strong>of</strong> Turkish<br />

<strong>Society</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>History</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Medicine</strong> and Istanbul<br />

University, Medical School, Department <strong>of</strong> Medical<br />

Ethics, Cerrahpasa Medical School, Department <strong>of</strong><br />

Medical Ethics, Uludag University, Medical School,<br />

Department <strong>of</strong> Medical Ethics, Istanbul University,<br />

Faculty <strong>of</strong> Law, Department <strong>of</strong> Penal Law and<br />

Criminal Procedure Law in Istanbul. The aims <strong>of</strong> this<br />

symposium are to enlighten all <strong>the</strong> colleagues on<br />

medical ethics, medical law and patients’ rights.<br />

Known colleagues from Germany, Switzerland,<br />

Belgium and Croatia are to participate in this symposium.<br />
