WACKER is one of the world’s leading
suppliers of high-quality binders and
polymer additives. WACKER scientists
have been working with polymeric
binders since the 1950s, and with highperformance
vinyl acetate/ethylene
(VAE) copolymer dispersions since
the mid-1960s. Now, WACKER is the
market and technology leader in VAE
dispersions with world class production
sites in the Americas, Europe and
Asia.
WACKER, VINNAPAS ® and VINNOL ® are registered
trademarks of Wacker Chemie AG.
The future belongs to environmentally
friendly systems. WACKER supplies you
with an important component of such
systems: a product range that includes
low-VOC, FDA-compliant and non-APEO
surfactant stabilized binders, but still
offers full performance and in many
cases cost advantages.
Your Innovative Boost
We complement our production and
market experience with our tradition as
High-performance products with low
environmental impact. Many of our
VINNAPAS ® and VINNOL ® dispersions
for the adhesives market are characterized
as water-based, solvent-free,
plasticizer-free, low-formaldehyde and
low-VOC products that offer excellent
opportunities for growth. With their superior
performance and cost advantages,
these dispersions offer alternatives
to many other technologies.
4
WACKER’s product line includes vinyl
acetate/ethylene (VAE) copolymer dispersions
and polyvinyl acetate (PVAc) water
resistant homopolymer dispersions.
VAEs function as high-quality binders,
providing adhesion and cohesion, hydrolytic
stability, thermal stability, high
degrees of wet tack, fast setting speeds,
high solids content and excellent resistance
to plasticizers. VAEs boast an
exceptional range of properties, allowing
them to bond a wide range of different
substrates, to have a broad formulation
latitude and be applied via a host of
high-speed application methods. In over
70 years of development and production
of polymer dispersions, we have gathered
extensive experience and expertise,
which is reflected in our unique product
portfolio.
VINNAPAS ® and VINNOL ® dispersions
are particularly suitable for formulating
very low-emission dispersion adhesives,
and are therefore highly valued for bonding
coated paperboard, PVC, rubber,
linoleum, polyolefin, cork and textile
coverings used in a wide range of applications
including:
• Automotive
• Bookbinding
• Case and carton packaging
• Cigarette manufacturing
• Cups and tube winding
• Envelope manufacturing
• EPI adhesives
• Flooring
• Foil and film laminating
• Furniture laminating
• Glass and cellulose insulation
• Glass and plastic bottle labeling
• Membrane pressing
• Multiwall and specialty bags
• PVC laminating
• Underlayments
• Vacuum forming
• Wood adhesives

VINNAPAS ® and VINNOL ® dispersions
are impressive for their excellent quality
and can be protected with colloid systems,
surfactant systems, or a combina-
tion of both. The most common colloid
system used in adhesive applications is
polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH). PVOH is a large
molecule that is water soluble. It will
therefore contribute a high degree of wet
tack to a dispersion that is not possible
with surfactant protection.
VAE dispersions protected with partially
hydrolyzed PVOH can be readily machine
applied and are non-spattering. They display
fast setting, have good flow and are
easy to clean up. Surfactant-protected
systems are much more thixotropic than
PVOH-stabilized dispersions and become
thinner under high shear conditions.
Advantages of surfactant-protected dispersions
include lower heat-seal temperature,
better adhesion to plastics, clearer
films, higher water resistance and good
sprayability.
In some cases, our dispersions are
polymerized with a combination of protective
colloids and surfactants to achieve
the best combination of performance
attributes. VINNAPAS ® and VINNOL ®
dispersions offer a wide range of products
so that compounders can formulate or
blend an adhesive product that will exhibit
the best performance balance for their
end customer’s adhesive application.
