Claude DEBUSSY
Quartet, Trio & Dances
Édouard LALO
Symphonie espagnole
Patric STANDFORD
Orchestral Works
release date: november 13, 2012
Danel Quartet/Francette Bartholomée: harp/Daniel Blumenthal: piano
DEBUSSY: String Quartet in G minor • Danses (2 versions) • Piano Trio in G
Paying homage to Debussy in 2012 was natural for the Brussels-based Danel Quartet, as the city
played an important role in the composer’s musical development. On these recordings, Francette
Bartholomée is an attentive guardian of the magical chromatic harp. This release includes the
long-ignored youthful Trio, resurrected by Daniel Blumenthal.
Nikita Boriso-Glebsky: violin/Jean-Philippe Collard: piano/Sinfonia Varsovia/Augustin Dumay:
conductor
LALO: Symphonie espagnole • Violin Sonata • Arlequin • Guitare
For this sixth volume of Fuga Libera’s collection Chapelle Musicale Reine Elisabeth, we find the
magnificent Sinfonia Varsovia under the direction of Augustin Dumay. Prizewinning violinist Nikita
Boriso-Glebsky is one of the best talents of his generation. On this recording, he offers a particularly
welcome program, selecting beautiful lesser-known pieces. Jean-Philippe Collard matches the young
Russian violinist with sparkling keyboard playing, affirming Lalo’s title as a pioneer of chamber
music in France.
Raphael Wallfisch: cello/Royal Scottish National Orchestra/David Lloyd-Jones: conductor
STANDFORD: First Symphony (The Seasons—An English Year) • Cello Concerto • Prelude to a
Fantasy (The Naiades)
These three orchestral pieces represent a highly productive creative period in Patric Standford’s
life. As a teacher at the Guildhall School and regular performer in choral competitions in Hungary,
France, and Estonia during the 1970s, Standford has spent the last decade revisiting and revising
works written during this frenzied period, represented here on CD!
