Among a great number of outstanding and talented interpretations of these works, Richter’s style is unmistakable for its embossed, sculptural modeling of musical images. He showcases a multitude of subtle shades of piano sound, from powerful symphonicity to a most delicate pianissimo. These recordings of Tchaikovsky’s piano concertos were made in 1959, when the artist achieved genuine artistic maturity and the Soviet performing arts saw a new heyday. This album presents a little-known early period of Kremer’s performing career, recorded in the first half of the 1970s. Romantic virtuosity prevails in his interpretation, accompanied by conductor Woldemar Nelson and outstanding St. Petersburg maestro Yuri Temirkanov.
