certification company.<br />

Training in Organic Agriculture under the Organic Sector Development Training <strong>of</strong> the Export<br />

Promotion <strong>of</strong> Organic Products from Africa, EPOPA funded by the Swidish Development Agency<br />

(SIDA), <strong>and</strong> organization <strong>of</strong> similar local training<br />

Research Experience<br />

Research Fellow <strong>of</strong> AFP Rothamsted, in collaboration with Dr. Katherine Steel, University <strong>of</strong> Bangor,<br />

UK, (2007): the study will focus on identification <strong>of</strong> tomato yellow leaf curl viruses in all tomato<br />

growing agro-ecologies <strong>of</strong> Ug<strong>and</strong>a, other than the eight districts covered during this study, evaluation<br />

<strong>of</strong> selected tomato lines against tomato yellow leaf curl viruses, dissemination <strong>of</strong> elite tomato<br />

germplasm to farmers in Lake Victoria Basin<br />

Research on knowledge gaps along the export market chain <strong>of</strong> organic exports in Ug<strong>and</strong>a. In<br />

collaboration with the National Organic Agriculture Movement <strong>of</strong> Ug<strong>and</strong>a, (2006)<br />

Research on the impact (knowledge, attitude, income, nutrition) <strong>of</strong> the vegetable gardening activity in<br />

Universal Primary Education Schools on the school community <strong>and</strong> on surrounding villages<br />

(I@Mak.com 2005 Rockfeller Funded Project): the objective <strong>of</strong> this activity is to impact agricultural<br />

skills to pupils so that those who may drop out <strong>of</strong> school after Primary seven will be able to use the<br />

skill<br />

Research, on first identification <strong>of</strong> tomato viruses in Ug<strong>and</strong>a (1997-2006), as part <strong>of</strong> PhD research<br />

work<br />

Evaluation <strong>of</strong> three tomato lines, UMU1, UMU2, <strong>and</strong> UMU3 for their performance under organic<br />

farming systems, with no use <strong>of</strong> synthetic chemicals (2004-2005)<br />

Participation in regional evaluation <strong>of</strong> AVRDC tomato lines against <strong>Tomato</strong> yellow leaf curl virus, in<br />

collaboration with the Hebrew University, Israel (2003)<br />

Research on effectiveness <strong>and</strong> feasibility <strong>of</strong> using botanicals in soil fertility <strong>and</strong> pest management in<br />

organic vegetable production (2003-on going)<br />

International Foundation for Science Scholar (C/1997-1) from 1992-95: during this period, research on<br />

Passion fruit collar rot disease <strong>and</strong> identification <strong>of</strong> the pathogen <strong>and</strong> options for collar rot<br />
