language function. This followed from broader distributed components with later<br />

latencies obtained in both ‘case-chi’ and ‘tense-chi’ experiments. In the group of children<br />

with SLI much smaller differences between experimental conditions (violation – non-<br />

violation) were obtained reflecting difficulties of error detection observed in this group of<br />

participants. Finally, smaller differences between the experiments could be observed in<br />

the SLI group suggesting that the lag in language development consists of lack of<br />

modularization of language function. These results are consistent with the hypothesis that<br />

the deficit behind SLI is, in fact, processing specific language in<strong>for</strong>mation by<br />

‘inadequate’ means.<br />
