The increase in ε TIL was initiated by meltwater released from the snowpack over two weeks to more than three weeks before the snow disappearance in both cases. However, the response of snowmelt to the ε TIL was clearly site and texturespecifi c, such that the intra- and inter-seasonal soil ε TILL was signifi cantly lower (F=810, p=0) in sandy till than in silty till. Even the maximum soil water content at Juolkusselkä site was minor to that of the minimum at the Vaalolehto site. It was found that mean inter-seasonal ε TIL =7.0±1.36 applies to sandy till and v=24.4±6.56 to silty till, respectively. We estimated (99% confi dence) that the inter-seasonal mean of sandy till varies between 6.7< ε TIL
