The Helianthus multiflorus, a native of North-America, is
ahardy perennial herbaceous plant, arifing ufually tp the height
of five or fix feet, and producing a great number pf large
yellow fhewy blofToms, which renders it a fu.itable plant to
ornament the fhrubbery or garden of large extent; the variety
with double flowers is the one moft commonly cultivated, and
this we find in almoft every garden: it (lowers frpm July tp
September, and is propagated by parting its ropts in autumn.
This is a hardy plant, of ready growth, will bear the fmoke
of London better than many others; if it continues in the
fame fpot for a great number of years, the blpffpms are apt
to become fingle.
The fingle fort, according tp MORISON, was introduce^
