Prof. JACQUIN, in the fecond volume of the Flora atiftriaca, gives an excellent figure and accurate defcription of our plant, a native of the Alps of Germany and Switzer- hnd, and points out the characters in which it differs from the alpinum, for which it has fometimes been miftaken. It is a hardy perennial, rarely exceeding a foot in height, produces its fpikes of pendulous flowers, which are of a moft Leautiful purple colour, in July and Auguft; hitherto thefe '. ave not been fucceeded by feed-veflels with us; though we have cultivated the plant for feveral years. Its fize renders it a fuitable plant for rock-work, on which it ',^11 grow readily, increafing by its roots, which are of the t cuping kind. HALLER mentions a variety of it with white flowers.
