at base, attenuate ac^te at apex, finely crenate-serrate, glabrous, shining above, venation translucent,
conspicuously pinnate; petioles 1 2 cm long, bi-glandular at the top; flowers regular,
unisexual, apetalous, greenish yellow, monoecious in leaf-opposed or subterminal spikes
5- -7 5 cm long, sessile, males numerous in clusters, females larger, usually I or 2 at U.i base
of the spike nude flowers: sepals fused into a minute, membranous, 2-or 3-toothed cup, not
enclosing ihr. jionicMa in bud, ciliate; stamens 2 or 3, filaments distinct, pistillode absent; female
flowers calj-A 3-fid or 3 partite; ovary superior,, 3-locular with a single ovule in each tuculus,
styles 3, veiy long, undivided; capsule with wuody cocci and central persistent column, about
2.5 ct.i diameter, depressed, globose, glabrous, blackish green, cocci thick and hard; seeds grey,
about I 2 cm long
