government-sponsored clinical trials, as well as new drug therapies recently
approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This site is a resource
both for patients interested in participating in clinical trials and for research
professionals. The search function employs a drill-down strategy. Click on
Trials Listings, then on Cardiology/Vascular Diseases, and scan for
appropriate categories, such as Diet and Nutrition. There is no fee for
Cochrane Collaboration Database of Systematic Reviews
http://www.cochrane.org/
The Cochrane Collaboration is a global network of researchers who conduct
systematic reviews of randomized clinical trials, including unpublished and
difficult-to-locate research. The collaboration is organized into major disease
review groups and cross-cutting fields. To view abstracts of relevant reviews,
click on Abstracts of Cochrane Reviews and then Cochrane Heart Group for
the listing. Some of the reviews have been undertaken in collaboration with
members of the Field of Complementary Medicine. A complete list of CAMrelated
reviews can be found at the field’s Web site:
http://www.compmed.umm.edu/Compmed/Cochrane/
Click on Reviews and Protocols in the sidebar for the pdf file listing.
Other databases relevant to CAM are listed and linked to in the directory of
databases, maintained at the Rosenthal Center for Complementary Medicine
at Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons. They are
categorized by topic and whether they are publicly available, require free
registration, or available by paid subscription only.
These are global databases that have significant resources on complementary and
alternative medicine (CAM) relevant to cardiovascular disease. All are freely available
public domain resources.
