Rockford School <strong>of</strong> Medicine, Medical Center<br />

(10) <strong>The</strong> chancellor at the Medical Center has recommended the appointment <strong>of</strong><br />

Dr. Ronald E. Ramstedt, presently clinical associate pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> surgery and acting<br />

chairperson <strong>of</strong> the Department <strong>of</strong> Surgery and Surgical Specialties, as clinical<br />

associate pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> surgery and chairperson <strong>of</strong> the Department <strong>of</strong> Surgery and<br />

Surgical Specialties, Rockford School <strong>of</strong> Medicine, beginning March 1, 1980, on<br />

40 percent time, at an annual salary <strong>of</strong> $15,105.<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>Board</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Trustees</strong> approved the departmentalization <strong>of</strong> the Rockford<br />

School <strong>of</strong> Medicine on November 17, 1978. Dr. Ramstedt will be the first chair-<br />

person <strong>of</strong> the Department <strong>of</strong> Surgery and Surgical Specialties.<br />

<strong>The</strong> nomination is supported by the faculty <strong>of</strong> the Department <strong>of</strong> Surgery<br />

and Surgical Specialties. <strong>The</strong> vice president for academic affairs concurs.<br />

Head, Department <strong>of</strong> Health and Safety Education, Urbana<br />

(11) <strong>The</strong> dean <strong>of</strong> the College <strong>of</strong> Applied Life Studies has recommended to the<br />

chancellor at Urbana-Champaign the appointment <strong>of</strong> Donald B. Stone, presently<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> health education, as head <strong>of</strong> the Department <strong>of</strong> Health and Safety<br />

Education, beginning February 21, 1980, on a twelve-month service basis, at an<br />

annual salary <strong>of</strong> $36,437.<br />

Dr. Stone will continue to hold the rank <strong>of</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> health education on<br />

indefinite tenure. He will succeed William H. Creswell, Jr., who asked to be re-<br />

lieved <strong>of</strong> this administrative assignment.<br />

<strong>The</strong> recommendation is submitted after consultation with the Departmental<br />

Advisory Committee comprised <strong>of</strong> all tenured faculty and with all members <strong>of</strong> the<br />

faculty with pr<strong>of</strong>essorial rank.<br />

<strong>The</strong> chancellor at Urbana-Champaign and the vice president for academic<br />

affairs have approved the recommendation.<br />

I recommend approval.<br />

Appointments to the Faculty<br />

(12) <strong>The</strong> following new appointments to the faculty <strong>of</strong> the rank <strong>of</strong> assistant pr<strong>of</strong>essor<br />

and above, and certain administrative positions, have been approved since<br />

the previous meeting <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Board</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Trustees</strong>.<br />

Positions in the <strong>University</strong> are classified in the following categories and are<br />

designated in the budget by the symbols indicated.<br />

A - Indefinite tenure<br />

N - Term appointment not eligible to be appointed for an indefinite<br />

term and not credited toward probationary period<br />

Q - Initial term appointment for a pr<strong>of</strong>essor or associate pr<strong>of</strong>essor<br />

T - Terminal appointment accompanied with, or preceded by, notice<br />

<strong>of</strong> nonreappointment<br />

W - One-year appointment subject to special written agreement<br />

Y - Twelve-month service basis<br />

1-7 - Indicates the number <strong>of</strong> years <strong>of</strong> service which will be credited at<br />

the end <strong>of</strong> the contract period toward completion <strong>of</strong> the proba-<br />

tionary period relating to tenure
