<strong>The</strong> renewal <strong>of</strong> this lease is for the same amount <strong>of</strong> rental space but at a<br />

higher rate. <strong>The</strong> present rate is $7.26 per square foot and a total annual coat <strong>of</strong><br />

$56,983.80.<br />

Funds have been included in the appropriation bill <strong>of</strong> the General Assemby<br />

to meet the ordinary and contingent expenses <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong> for FY 1980 and<br />

will be included in the Division <strong>of</strong> Services for Crippled Children’s operating<br />

budget authorized in the request for FY 1980 to be submitted to the <strong>Board</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Trustees</strong>.<br />

(44) <strong>The</strong> president <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong>, with the concurrence <strong>of</strong> appropriate administrative<br />

<strong>of</strong>ficers, recommends that the comptroller and the secretary be authorized<br />

to execute the following leases, subject to the availability <strong>of</strong> funds, for the period<br />

July. 1, 1979, through June 30, 1980, at various locations within the state to<br />

provide space for Cooperative Extension activities. <strong>The</strong> terms <strong>of</strong> the proposed<br />

Extension and Amendment <strong>of</strong> Lease<br />

for Aeronomy Field Station, Urbana<br />

(45) <strong>The</strong> president <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong>, with the concurrence <strong>of</strong> appropriate ad-<br />

ministrative <strong>of</strong>ficers, recommends the authorization <strong>of</strong> an extension and amend-<br />

ment <strong>of</strong> lease for thirty acres <strong>of</strong> land for the Aeronomy Field Station in Section 26<br />

<strong>of</strong> Somer Township, Champaign County, at an annual rental <strong>of</strong> $8,000 for the<br />

period July 1, 1979, through June 30, 1980.<br />

Funds are available from institutional funds at the Urbana-Champaign<br />

campus.<br />

In 1964 and 1966, the <strong>University</strong> entered into agreements to lease this land<br />

as a portion <strong>of</strong> the site for the Department <strong>of</strong> Electrical Engineering’s Aeronomy<br />

Field Station at a rental rate <strong>of</strong> $500 per year, with options through June 30,<br />

1979, upon the same terms and conditions. <strong>The</strong> <strong>University</strong>, in a program funded<br />

entirely by NASA and the National Science Foundation, operates five kinds <strong>of</strong><br />

beam type antennae at the station to study meteors and properties <strong>of</strong> the upper<br />

atmosphere.
