<strong>The</strong> chancellor at the Urbana-Champaign campus, with the concurrence <strong>of</strong><br />

for administration be authorized to negotiate with CDC to provide direct support<br />

<strong>of</strong> lessonware development within the framework described above.<br />

Recommendations <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong> Patent Committee’<br />

( 18) <strong>The</strong> <strong>University</strong> Patent Committee submits the following recommendations<br />

relating to discoveries by st& members.<br />

1. <strong>The</strong>rmal Engine - C. Marvin Wayman, pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> metallurgical engineering,<br />

Urbana, inventor.<br />

<strong>University</strong> Patents, Inc., reported that it wished to file a patent application.<br />

Th,e <strong>University</strong> Patent Committee recommends that the <strong>University</strong> transfer its<br />

patent rights in this concept to the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Illinois</strong> Foundation.<br />

2. Tuning <strong>of</strong> Group Type Unidirectional Surface Acoustic Waue Transducers -<br />

Donald C. Malocha, visiting research associate in the Coordinated Science Laboratory,<br />

Urbana, inventor; sponsnred by the Joint Services Electronics Program<br />

and the United States Air Force.<br />

<strong>University</strong> Patents, Inc., reported that it wished to commercialize this idea.<br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>University</strong> Patent Committee recommends that the <strong>University</strong> transfer its<br />

patent rights in this concept to the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Illinois</strong> Foundation, subject to<br />

the rights <strong>of</strong> the sponsors.<br />

3. BCD to Teletype Conuerter- William D. Shepherd, graduate student in micro-<br />

biology, Urbana, Samuel Kaplan, pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> microbiology, Urbana, and Ronald<br />

Anderson, director <strong>of</strong> electronic services, School <strong>of</strong> Chemical Sciences, Urbana,<br />

inventors; sponsored by the National Institutes <strong>of</strong> Health and the National Sci-<br />

ence Foundation.<br />

<strong>University</strong> Patents, Inc., reported no potentially patentable feature in the dis-<br />

closure. <strong>The</strong> <strong>University</strong> Patent Committee recommends that the <strong>University</strong> retain<br />

shop rights and release all other patent rights in this concept to the sponsors.<br />

4. <strong>The</strong>rmit Reaction Processing <strong>of</strong> Ceramics - Jahax La1 Mukherjee, research asso-<br />

ciate in ceramic engineering, Urbana, and S. D. Brown, pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> reramic<br />

engineering, Urbana, inventors.<br />

<strong>University</strong> Patents, Inc., reported limited patent coverage and negative com-<br />

mercial potential. <strong>The</strong> <strong>University</strong> Patent Committee recommends that the Univer-<br />

sity retain shop rights and release all other patent rights in this concept to the<br />

inventors.<br />

5. Visometric <strong>The</strong>rmometer for Use in Electromagnetic Field Environments -<br />

hlichael M. Chen, pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> mechanical engineering and <strong>of</strong> bioengineering,<br />

Urbana, and Charles A. Cain, assistant pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> electrical engineering and<br />

<strong>of</strong> bioengineering, Urbana, inventors.<br />

<strong>University</strong> Patents, Inc., reported a lack <strong>of</strong> patentability in this disclosure. <strong>The</strong><br />

<strong>University</strong> Patent Committee recommends that the <strong>University</strong> retain shop rights<br />

and release all other patent rights in this concept to the inventors.<br />

‘<strong>The</strong> Committee on Patents <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Board</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Trustees</strong> has examined related background ma-<br />

terials and has approved the recommendations.
