a study <strong>of</strong> French disarmament, arms control, and arms sales policies<br />

KRAUSE, HARRY D., qr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> law, for the first semester, to complete a study <strong>of</strong><br />

the legal and soclal aspects <strong>of</strong> child support enforcement.<br />

PBSHKIN, ALAN J., pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> comparative education in educational policy studies<br />

and chairperson <strong>of</strong> the department, for the academic year, to conduct field<br />

work for a study <strong>of</strong> the role and impact <strong>of</strong> the religious school in contemporary<br />

America.<br />

TRIANDIS, HARRY C., pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> psychulogy and in the Institute <strong>of</strong> Labor and<br />

Industrial Relations and associate director <strong>of</strong> the Office <strong>of</strong> International Programs<br />

and Studies, for six months beginning July 18, 1979, to investigate<br />

psychosocial factors contributing to the success or failure <strong>of</strong> negotiation in<br />

cross-cultural settings.<br />

TRURAN, JAMES w., pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> astronomy, for the second semester, to carry out<br />

studies <strong>of</strong> nuclear processes in the evolution <strong>of</strong> stars.<br />

Visiting Associate<br />

GRENDLER, PAUL F., pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> history, <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> Toronto, for the academic<br />

year, to continue a study <strong>of</strong> primary and secondary education in Renaissance<br />

Venice, 1500-1650.<br />

On motion <strong>of</strong> Mr. Neal, these appointments were approved.<br />

Sabbatical Leaves <strong>of</strong> Absence, 1979-80<br />

(10) <strong>The</strong> chancellors at the Medical Center and Urbana-Champaign campuses<br />

have recommended members <strong>of</strong> the faculty to be given sabbatical leaves <strong>of</strong> absence<br />

in accordance with the provisions <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Illinois</strong> Statutes.<br />

<strong>The</strong> programs <strong>of</strong> research, study, and travel for which leaves are requested<br />

have been examined by the research boards at the campuses, and the vice president<br />

for academic affairs has reviewed the applications for the leaves and recommends<br />

approval <strong>of</strong> 6 leaves for Medical Center and 175 leaves for Urbana-Champaign.<br />

(A list <strong>of</strong> those recommended has been filed with the secretary <strong>of</strong> the board for<br />

record. )<br />

(For t b record and to provide an annual compilation, in 1978-79, 13 leaves<br />

were taken at Medical Center, and 146 leaves were taken at Urbana-Champaign.)<br />

I concur.<br />

On motion <strong>of</strong> Mr. Neal, these leaves were granted as recommended.<br />

Honorary Degrees, Medical Center<br />

(1 1) <strong>The</strong> senate at the Medical Center campus has recommended that honorary<br />

degrees be conferred on the following persons at the Commencement Exercises on<br />

June 1, 1979:<br />

DONALD A. HENDERSOF, dean, School <strong>of</strong> Hygiene and Public Health, <strong>The</strong> Johns<br />

Hopkins <strong>University</strong> - the degree <strong>of</strong> Doctor <strong>of</strong> Science.<br />

US B. ~CHMOND, assistant secretary for health, Department <strong>of</strong> Health, Educa-<br />

tion and Welfare - the degree <strong>of</strong> Doctor <strong>of</strong> Science.<br />

<strong>The</strong> chancellor has concurred in the recommendations.<br />

I recommend approval.
