Climbing challenges
• Set-up A Frames for children to climb over and
up and to use as a lookout to see what can be
seen from higher up
• Trees are wonderful climbing areas. However,
we need to determine the safety and suitability
of each tree. To inspire dramatic play, you could
add a pulley system so children can deliver items
up and down or between trees e.g. building items
across a river or canyon or gap between tall
buildings
• Prop two ladders against a cable drum for
climbing up and down
• Add firemen’s helmets and hoses to inspire
dramatic play. Or add plumbing pipes, ladders,
large wooden crates, hammers and nails
• The children will become a construction team,
repeatedly climbing up and down the ladders
• Add a rope to support children to climb an
incline board
