LTA PLAYER GUIDE 2013

The 2012 Aegon British Junior National
Championships took place at Nottingham
Tennis Centre and West Hants club in
Bournemouth. The 18&U titles went to Scott
Clayton and Beth Askew while Julian Cash
and Lana Rush were victorious in the 16&U
age group.
The 14&U titles were won by Marcus Walters
and Gabriella Taylor while Finn Bass and
Emily Appleton were crowned 12&U winners.
The winners of the 2012 HSBC Road to
Wimbledon were decided at the Bank of
England Sports Ground in Roehampton with
Luke Hammond and Emily Arbuthnott taking
the singles titles.

Andy Murray won his first Grand Slam singles
title at the US Open with a thrilling 7-6(10),
7-5, 2-6, 3-6, 6-2 win over Novak Djokovic to
become the first British man since Fred Perry
in 1936 to win one of the four major titles.
Laura Robson made an impressive run to the
fourth round of the US Open with victories
over Kim Clijsters and Li Na while Johanna
Konta won her first Grand Slam main draw
match against Timea Babos before narrowly
going down in the second round to Olga
Govortsova.
In the junior event Kyle Edmund won his
first junior Grand Slam title with Portuguese
partner Frederico Ferreira Silva while Liam
Broady was runner-up in the Boy’s singles.
Great Britain won two medals at the
Paralympic wheelchair tennis event with
Peter Norfolk and Andrew Lapthorne taking
silver in the quad doubles and Lucy Shuker
and Jordanne Whiley becoming the first
British females to win a medal in wheelchair
tennis when they came back from match
point down to win bronze in the women’s
doubles.
Gordon Reid reached the quarter finals of the
men’s singles and the quarter finals of the
Men’s doubles with Marc McCarroll.
Ross Hutchins and Colin Fleming reached
their fourth ATP World Tour Final of the year
at Kuala Lumpar narrowly falling to Bruno
Soares and Alexander Peya.
Jamie Murray and partner Andre Sa were
runners up at the ATP Roller Open Challenger
event in Luxembourg while David Rice and
Sean Thornley won their first ATP Challenger
title at the Izmir Cup in Turkey.
Laura Robson became the first British woman
to reach a WTA singles final for 22 years when
she finished as runner-up at the GRC Bank
Guangzhou International Women’s Open
2012.
Dan Evans was in great form to win
consecutive Aegon GB Pro-Series events in
Roehampton and Nottingham.
Liam Broady was a finalist at the ITF Grade
1 Canadian Open Junior Championships
losing to Australian Nick Kyrgios in the final.
