HEATHER WATSON 2013 CAREER: • Heather enjoyed a successful end to her junior career when she won gold at the Commonwealth Youth Games in 2008 and lifted the US Open Junior trophy in 2009 (including a comprehensive 62 61 win over No. 2 seed and junior Wimbledon champ Lertcheewakarn in the QF) as the No. 11 seed. • She played her first senior tournament in 2009 and won her first title in Frinton in July. Heather made swift progress in the senior game, making her Grand Slam debut at Wimbledon in 2010 and capping off the year by winning her first $50k tournament in Toronto, and representing Guernsey at the Commonwealth Games. • She started 2011 off strongly, qualifying for and reaching the quarter-finals of two WTA tournaments in Auckland and Memphis. Heather qualified for the French Open and won her first round match to become the first British woman since 1994 to win a main draw match at Roland Garros. EMILY WEBLEY-SMITH 2013 CAREER: • A British no.1 at junior level, since playing her first ITF event in July 2000 Emily Webley- Smith’s form has been hampered with injury and illness. In ten years she has had three major ankle surgeries, and suffered from deep vein thrombosis and dengue fever. • Webley-Smith reached the second round in her Wimbledon debut in 2004 but would have to wait seven years before returning. Enjoyed her best year in 2009, winning two singles and doubles titles before injured hampered her hopes of a Wimbledon return. • Returned to her best form in 2011, breaking into the top 250 for the first time on her way to a career-high ranking of 240 and achieving her goal of returning to Wimbledon, where she was eliminated in the first round. 2012-13 • Won the Las Palmas International with Russia’s Ksenia Lykina in April 2013, her ninth career doubles title and only her second title in four years.
