ANNE KEOTHAVONG 2013
CAREER:
• Anne played her first ITF senior event in 1999, won her first at $10k Jersey in 2001 (the
same year she reached the Wimbledon junior SF along with Baltacha, falling to Safina).
• Became British No. 1 for the first time in 2003 and started playing regularly on the WTA
Tour in 2006; in 2007, reached her first WTA singles SF in Kolkata (d. Errani en route) – the
best by a British woman since Durie at 1992 Birmingham.
• In May 2008, won $50k in Lebanon to crack Top 100 for the first time and became first
British woman in nine years to enter Wimbledon without WC (playing 7th consecutive MD
there) and at the US Open put in her best GS showing reaching 3r. Finished the year in style
winning her biggest titles $75k in Barnstaple and $100k in Krakov.
• 2009 started almost reaching the final of Auckland (fell to Vesnina 57 61 75 in 2:57) and
broke into the world’s top 50 after reaching her third WTA SF in Memphis in February)
becoming the first British woman in 16 years to reach that landmark since Durie in 1993),
she would reach her biggest Tour SF (Premier) in Warsaw – the best Premier+ result on Tour
since 1990 Newport and on clay since Durie reached the French Open SF in 1983.
• Her success was curtailed by a second serious knee injury (this time her right sustained in
Stanford and would keep her off the Tour until 2010. She fought her way back into the top
100 (with two more WTA SF results: Memphia & Luxembourg).
• Finished 2011 with another strong indoor run, qualifying for WTA Luxembourg (her 7th)
upsetting former No. 1 Ivanovic en route for a career best win (winning 12 of the final 14
games of the 63 62 match) before falling in 3s to Niculescu. Anne then topped this with

2012-13
• 2012 marked eleven years since Anne made her Fed Cup debut, and she helped the team
advance from the Euro/Africa Zone Group I to the World Group II Play-offs for the very first
time. Played her 11th consecutive Wimbledon singles MD and named to the Olympic squad
in singles and doubles.
• In 2013 won her 20th ITF career singles title in Crossy-Beaubourg, France (and fifth at $50k
level). In February finally reached her first WTA final – at Florianopolis doubles w/Savinykh
falling to top seeds Medina/Shvedova.
• Marked her 12th year out of 13 playing Fed Cup since 2001 for a total of 40 ties, winning 21
singles matches (only Wade has represented more – 57 ties, and won more – 36).
PERSONAL:
Learned to play tennis aged 7 on the park courts of Hackney Downs and Highbury Fields… Father
(Somsak), Mother (Vathana), two brothers (James & Mark) and younger sister Lena… Speaks Laotian
also… Likes bouldering (rock climbing and keeping fit in her spare time… Favourite cities are
London and New York.
