final the pair, now ranked 64 and 60 in the world
respectively, defeated the world No.1 American
duo, the Bryan brothers, 1-6, 7-6(3), 12-10.
Andy Lapthorne clinched the first ITF Super
Series quad singles title of his career in
Johannesburg after beating home favourite

Laura Robson overcame world number four
Agnieszka Radwanska 6-3, 6-1 at the Madrid
Open to achieve the first WTA top five win by a
British woman since Jo Durie beat Tracy Austin
at the French Open 30 years earlier. Robson
followed this up with an impressive straight
sets victory against seven-time Grand Slam
champion Venus Williams in Rome, 6-3, 6-2.
James Ward finished as the runner-up on the
red clay in China. Having defeated former
junior world No.1 Tsung-Hua Yang (TPE) in the
semi-finals, the Briton missed out 7-5, 3-6, 6-3
to Marton Fucsovics (HUN) in the final.
Kyle Edmund won the men’s singles title in
the USA F12 Futures, Florida after a 6-3, 6-2
win over Australian Carsten Ball.
British players completed the Atlanta Open
with three titles from four finals on Sunday,
with Jordanne Whiley sealing the first ITF 1
Series women’s singles title of her career.
In the first all-British women’s singles final
at ITF 1 Series level on the NEC Wheelchair
Tennis Tour, fifth seed Whiley finished the
stronger to seal a 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 victory over
Lucy Shuker.
Andy Murray claimed his 400th career win,
beating Germany’s Florian Mayer in his
opening match at the Madrid Open.
