of the LTA’s mission to get
more people playing tennis,
more often.
Great British results and
world class tournaments
inspire more people to follow
the sport, and to play tennis,
and we are fortunate to
have partners including the
All England Club and Sport
WELCOME TO THE
2013 BRITISH PLAYER
MEDIA GUIDE
England, who are working
with us to develop the sport.
Grass court tournaments
like the Aegon
Queen’s Club, the Aegon
Priory Club, Birmingham,
and the Aegon International
at Devonshire Park in
Eastbourne, and of course
the greatest of them
all, The Championships,
Wimbledon, provide a
spectacular window out on
to our sport, and a great
opportunity to showcase
tennis as a fun, healthy,
family sport.
We recognise the vital
role you play in helping
to promote British tennis
during this period, and all
year round.
We are also working closely
with the Tennis Foundation
to support their world
class disability tennis
performance programme,
and to promote tennis as a
sport which is inclusive and
accessible to every kind of
individual and community.
I’d like to wish all of our
players the best of luck over
the coming season.
Finally, I’d like to thank our
lead partner, Aegon for their
continued support at all
levels of British tennis, and
LTA PERFORMANCE SUPPORT
The LTA is committed to removing the barriers
that prevent equal participation and access to
tennis at the highest level, through providing
professional and financial support to high
performance players. The varying levels
of support aim to help players reach their
potential and are dependent upon a player’s
age and progress.
To ensure a transparent and fair process, the
LTA has created a series of measures for the
allocation of funding, as well as the granting of
wildcards and other selection processes.
The LTA uses a Player Matrix to measure and
determine which players are eligible to receive
funding.
Team Aegon players receive the highest level
of support from the LTA. As well as financial
support in the form of programme funding and
international travel assistance (ITA), they also
have access to the highest level of tennis and
technical support through the programme at
the National Tennis Centre. This programme
includes strength and conditioning training,
sports science, sports medicine, performance
lifestyle advice, nutritionist support, and
performance analysis.
Aegon FutureStars are players aged 18&U who
receive funding based upon the LTA Player
Matrix. The funding goes towards squad
sessions, individual training, strength and
conditioning, and court costs, in order to help
reduce the cost of a player’s programme, and is
paid directly to the performance centre where
the player is training. Aegon FutureStars also
receive individual support from either the LTA’s
Talent Performance Managers and Coordinators,
or the National Coaches, depending on their age
and playing level.
The Tournament Bonus Scheme was launched
in 2010 and aims to reward those players
competing in the Futures, Challengers and ATP/
WTA tour events. This scheme is open to all non-
Team Aegon players, and supplements prize
money that is earned at these events both
in the UK and abroad. As well as providing
player support, it aims to remove some of
the financial barriers professional players
may face as they strive to make a successful
transition to the senior game.
The LTA has also implemented a Performance
Centre Network of 100 centres which
are supported with people, resources,
and funding, in order to create worldclass
training programmes for the next
generation of players. Performance Centres
work with players aged up to 12, whilst
High Performance and International High
Performance Centres work with 12 – 18 and
older players. The centres are funded using
an incentivising system that rewards them
for the level of players they have produced
over the previous seasons. The purpose of the
Performance Centre Network is to produce
‘A’ matrix international players who are
supported by the best coaches, and training
at the best centres in the country.
TEAM AEGON
Team Aegon is the group of elite
performance players who receive the
highest level of support from the LTA.
