An ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (uhmwpe) that has excellent
wear and abrasion resistance and outstanding impact strength,
even at temperatures below -200°C. RALLOY ® uhmwpe 1000
has very good chemical resistance, low moisture absorption,
a low co-efficient of friction and superior anti-stick properties.
It is often used in high-wear applications, from conveyor
wear strips to guide rails or scraper blades for road
roller equipment.
Larger uhmwpe sheets are used
for lining bulk storage hoppers
where low friction, anti-stick and
abrasion-resistant properties solve
feed and wear problems. Standard
finish is planed with a tolerance of ±0.3mm.
Unplaned sheets (press finish) are available on request.
RALLOY ® uhmwpe BR1000 is a special blend of
uhmwpe (ultra high molecular weight polyethylene)
which has been formulated for the Australian market.
It has excellent UV resistance for outdoor applications,
good sliding wear, abrasion resistance and is an ideal
liner material. RALLOY ® uhmwpe BR1000 has limited insulating
properties and good chemical resistance.
With its very low co-efficient of friction and outstanding
wear properties, RALLOY ® uhmwpe BR1000 is used in
many industrial applications to prevent material hold-up
and bridging in hoppers and silos. Sheets have a planed
finish with a tolerance of ±0.3mm and are easy to machine
into finished components and profiles.
RALLOY ® uhmwpe wear strips and profiles are available in a
wide range of shapes and sizes. These cut-to-length profiles,
with the ability to hold close tolerances, are cost-effective
alternatives to machined parts.
RALLOY ® uhmwpe wear strips are normally used in
sliding applications where metal-to-metal contact
causes friction or abrasion wear. They can be
planed, drilled, slotted or bevelled and are
extruded in a variety of U-channels or
right angles to suit specific applications.
Other thermoplastics are also available for wear
strip and profile extrusions.
RALLOY ® uhmwpe 8000 is a premium-grade, uhmwpe
polymer which has been developed for use specifically in
bulk material handling applications. One of its main characteristics
is an extremely low co-efficient of friction, which
greatly assists in the bulk flow of cohesive or non-free-flowing
material.
RALLOY ® uhmwpe is also available in other grades, including
high temperature, UV protected, anti-static and flameretardant
applications, with additional lubricating modifiers
and glass fillers. One sheet surface is planed, the other
surface as moulded.

RALLOY ® hdpe is ideally suited to many applications, especially
those involving fabricated components. The material is lightweight,
extremely tough and easy to fabricate with standard
wood-working tools. It has good abrasion resistance
and impact strength, as well as chemical and corrosion
resistance. Black hdpe is also UV resistant.
RALLOY ® Natural hdpe is FDA approved and is suitable
for food contact. It is used extensively in the food,
fish and meat processing industries, where it is used in
cutting boards and table tops.
RALLOY ® hdpe is also available in twin-colour sheets
for playground and exterior signage applications.
RALLOY ® marine board is high density polyethylene
(hdpe) formulated to withstand the rigours of harsh
marine environments. It is UV stabilised to resist damage
and has good wear and abrasion resistance – it
will not rot, splinter, de-laminate, crack, swell or absorb
water like traditional materials such as wood or laminates.
It has low co-efficient of friction, anti-stick abilities
and excellent chemical resistance.
It is almost maintenance-free, even under foot traffic
on boat decks. Staining or painting is not needed, as
the colour is integrated with the polymer.
General engineering uses two basic types of nylon:
Tecamid 6 ® , an extruded nylon 6, offers the optimum
combination of mechanical strength, toughness,
damping properties and wear resistance. It is the
general purpose grade for most mechanical, construction
and maintenance applications.
Tecamid 66 ® , an extruded nylon 66, has higher
mechanical strength, stiffness and toughness,
although Tecamid 6 ® has similar characteristics.
Tecamid 66 ® exhibits better heat, wear and
creep resistance, and has superior machining
properties, but Tecamid 6 ® has improved impact
strength and mechanical damping properties.
Tecast T ® is a stress-relieved cast nylon 6 which is
ideally suited to large volume and machined components applications.
It exhibits resistance to stress cracking and is very resistant
to oils, greases, diesel and petrol. It also has a high
level of toughness even when dry, good sliding properties and
easy machinability.
Tecast L ® is a cast nylon 6 which is totally self-lubricating.
This lubrication has been especially developed for use in
applications that rely on unlubricated, highly loaded and
slow-moving components. Because of its self-lubricating
properties, Tecast L ® exhibits a co-efficient of friction that
is 50% less than standard cast nylons, and has a wear
resistance that is up to 10 times greater.
Tecast L ® retains all the other cast nylon physical
properties: it has high mechanical strength, creep resistance
over a wide temperature range, good sliding and
machining properties and dimensional stability.
Tecast TM ® is a stress-relieved cast nylon 6 and Tecam
6MO ® is an extruded nylon 6 to which MoS2 (molybdenum
disulphide) has been added. This results in higher surface
hardness and abrasion resistance. MoS2 filled nylon
exhibits stiffer, harder and dimensionally more stable
properties than unmodified nylon. The addition of MoS2 creates a strong crystalline structure which enhances
bearing and wear behaviour, without impairing the
inherent impact and fatigue resistance of cast nylons.
MoS2 filled nylons are self-lubricating, quiet in operation,
and their lightness contributes to low inertia, which is often a
factor under stop/start conditions. They are easily
machined, have good load-bearing capabilities and their
low co-efficient of friction makes them ideal for many bearing
applications.
Tecaform AH ® acetal is a hard engineering plastic which is very suitable
for automatic machining and precision mechanical parts. Its low
moisture absorption gives excellent dimensional stability for
close tolerance parts, such as bearings and gears.
Acetal has high tensile strength,
stiffness and creep resistance and
is resistant to hydrolysis, strong
alkalis and thermo-oxidative degradation.
It is suitable for use in components
and insulators where
exceptional strength is needed for
above-average temperatures or moisture
levels. It can also be used in contact
with food, especially in liquid environments.
Vesconite ® is an extremely advanced polymer with an outstanding combination
of properties, which make it ideal for a wide range of
bearing applications. It exhibits a very high rigidity and is
harder wearing than either metal or composition bushes.
High load capacity and impact strength is coupled with good
frictional and wear behaviour.
Vesconite ® has high dimensional stability and absorbs very little
water - when saturated, the material exhibits no swelling and its
physical properties allow immersion with only small clearances. It is
especially suited to being immersed in dirty, corrosive applications.
Vesconite ® Hilube incorporates a ptfe internal lubricant for applications
where relatively high loads and sliding speeds apply.
Tecadur ® PET is polyethylene terephthalate. It is one of
the harder industrial plastics and exhibits high mechanical
and creep strength, together with low thermal
expansion, very good sliding properties and high
dimensional stability. It has extremely low moisture
absorption and a minimal tendency to wear in damp
conditions.
Tecadur ® PET is especially recommended for use
with close-tolerance, precision parts which
require relatively low friction and are subject to
sustained high loadings and wear. It is easily
machined, can be glued, is non-toxic and has
FDA approval.

RALLOY ® polypropylene is highly resistant to chemicals
across a wide range of acids, bases and solvents, even at
high operating temperatures.
RALLOY ® polypropylene is lightweight, with better physical
strength than hdpe. Its rigidity, high surface hardness, gloss,
strength and operating temperature, plus the ability to be
easily fabricated, formed and welded, make it ideal for use
in corrosion-resistant applications. It also exhibits good
electrical properties and has negligible moisture absorption.
RALLOY ® polypropylene is also non-toxic for food contact.
abs is an easily-machined, soft plastic with a low melt point.
It is easily thermo-formed and has very good reproduction of
mould detail. Extruded abs sheet can be heat-formed to
produce tough, rigid components by using any conventional
thermoplastic sheet-forming equipment.
abs is easily machined to close tolerances. It can also
be machine-finished by filing, grinding, sanding, buffing
and polishing. Good impact strength makes abs
ideal for fabrication, and it has good chemical and
stress-cracking resistance to many salt solutions,
alkalis, mineral acids and oils.
abs is solvent cementable and easily welded.
It is one of the few non-metallic materials that,
under certain conditions, can be readily electroplated.
pvc is among the most widely-used of all plastics. RAL-
LOY ® pvc has a very high resistance to many
chemicals including concentrated acids,
alkalis and alcohols. Its high mechanical
strength and ease of machining
make RALLOY ® pvc exceptionally useful
where chemicals are used in industry.
It can be milled, turned, drilled and
tapped. Moisture absorption is low and
RALLOY ® pvc has good electrical insulating
properties. It is also solvent cementable
and is bonded to other substrates by using a general
purpose epoxy resin.
acrylic pmma is a rigid plastic, generally known as acrylic but
also as Perspex ® or Plexiglas ® . The most notable characteristic
of acrylic is its transparency, comparable to glass, which allows
it to be used in many applications, and its rigid properties also
make it ideal for machine safety guards. Acrylic tubing is
used extensively in small feed hoppers on many types of
manufacturing and processing equipment. Sight glasses
for storage tanks or containers are another common
application. acrylic pmma shows good weather and
scratch resistance, and has low moisture absorption. It
can be heat-formed, and is readily glued with an acrylic
solvent cement. It is not affected by most detergents,
cleaning agents, food oils or lubricants.

LEXAN ® is transparent and has low water absorption. It is a hard and
dimensionally rigid plastic, but has remarkable impact strength and
flexibility, and its mechanical properties are only slightly influenced
by temperature fluctuations.
LEXAN ® is self-extinguishing and flame resistant,
and will retain its physical properties
even in temperatures as low as
–60°C. It can be heat or cold-formed
and is solvent-cementable. Its weather
resistance and insulating capacity are
not influenced by temperature or moisture.
polyurethane is a thermoset elastomer which possesses toughness
and durability far in excess of most rubbers and plastics.
One of its most important characteristics is its extremely
broad spectrum of hardness, which can range from erasersoft
to golf-ball hard. This hardness is governed by the
molecular structure of polyurethane, not by the addition of
fillers or plasticisers.
polyurethane has a remarkable resistance to abrasion
and low temperature stiffening, and has high load-bearing
capacity. It is also hydrolytically stable and
able to be both moulded and poured. Harder
grades can be machined, and polyurethane
has superior resistance to oils, chemicals,
radiation and weathering. It has an
extremely high flex life and cut resistance.
Teflon ® flexible extruded tubing is produced
specifically for applications that require
absolute corrosion resistance. Few thermoplastics
can match the compatability of fep
with nearly all chemicals, regardless of temperature
or strength. fep tubing is only attacked
by molten alkali metals and some halogenated
chemicals at high temperatures and pressures.
fep tubing is clear in colour, nearly transparent
in thin sections and is totally inert with zero
moisture absorption. It withstands continuous
operation from -260°C to +200°C and is heat-sealable.
ptfe is a white, waxy-feeling industrial plastic with nonstick
properties that are unmatched by any other plastic.
It is virtually inert and possesses useful electrical and
mechanical properties. Besides being used in liquid form
for spray coatings, ptfe can be moulded into solid
rods and sheets for machining into finished parts.
As well as having the lowest co-efficient of friction
of any solid (0.05-0.08), ptfe has a very high upper
temperature limit of 260°C and is almost totally
unaffected by most commonly-used commercial
chemicals. Various fillers can be
added to improve performance, the most
common of these being mineral, carbon,
glass fibre and bronze.

Peek is a semi-crystalline thermoplastic which performs very successfully
under extreme conditions of temperature, chemical environment,
stress, wear, radiation and electrical usage.
Peek Natural is the virgin resin and offers very high toughness
and impact strength. It has a very high maximum service temperature
in air (250°C continuously) and exhibits strength and hardness,
even at these temperatures. Peek Natural can be sterilised
by conventional sterilisation methods and has a raw material
composition which allows contact with foodstuffs.
Other Peek grades are available with additives such as ptfe,
graphite and carbon fibres. These grades exhibit low friction, high
wear and high PV limits, making them ideal for wear and
friction applications.
Micarta ® is an industrial laminate containing layers of
paper, linen, canvas or glass cloth which have been
impregnated with either phenolic or epoxy resins. This
causes a chemical reaction which transforms the separate
layers into a single laminated material.
Micarta ® laminates show high physical strength,
resiliency, ease of fabrication, and excellent electrical
properties. They are also easy to saw, tap, drill and
machine with standard tools. Paper-based laminates
are the most economical. Cotton-fabric has
greater strength, whilst glass-based grades have
the best stability. Micarta ® carbon fibre and composite
laminates utilise an epoxy resin, and offer
impressive properties over a wide range of conditions.
X-Lube ® self-lubricating bushes provide an extremely
cost-effective alternative to traditional metal bearings
and are injection-moulded to close tolerances, using
specialised precision tooling .
X-Lube ® bushes use a superior nylon 6 material which
is impregnated with molybdenum disulphide (MoS 2).
This additive lowers friction which helps to reduce the
need for lubrication, improves wear resistance and
increases the life of the bush. They have been
designed with an interference fit on the OD to allow
for a good push-fit into the housing and are available
in either plain (P) or shouldered (S) configuration.
Some bushes have a heavy-wall thickness and require
machining to finished size.
Mulford fasteners have been specifically
designed for the fixing of plastic materials.
They are manufactured in a white or natural
colour from a variety of materials, including
nylon, acetal and uhmwpe, with some being
stocked in black. Most can be produced in
custom colours. The range of styles and sizes
for industrial applications is very diverse.
Mulford fasteners can be used for a variety
of applications as they exhibit excellent electrical
and thermal properties, are corrosionresistant,
non-metallic and lightweight. They are also cost-effective and low-maintenance, with the ability
to conform to irregular surfaces and provide good vibration dampening.
